Ipas is a nonprofit organization working with partners around the world to advance reproductive justice by expanding access to abortion and contraception. We aim to build sustainable abortion ecosystems that address all factors impacting a person’s ability to access abortion—from individual health knowledge to social and community support, to a trained health workforce, to political leadership and supportive laws. In Bangladesh Ipas works since 2011 and from its inception in the country we work closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to ensure that women and girls can enhance their sexual and reproductive health via affordable, safe, respectful, and comprehensive abortion and contraceptive care. Ipas works throughout the country- in rural settings, in urban areas and in humanitarian settings.

Ipas Bangladesh is seeking applications from hardworking, sincere, and cheerful individuals for the following position.

Position: Communication & Youth Mobilization Coordinator, Improving SRHR in Dhaka Project, based in Dhaka- Bangladesh (1 position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides support to develop strategy and tools to facilitate youth engagement and community mobilization particularly in poor socio-economic context for SRHR issues.
  • Conduct mapping of existing youth programs at the community level of the project areas.
  • Support partner organization to identify groups of underserved adolescents and individual youths to participate in SBCC strategy development.
  • Technical support to partner organization for engaging youths and adolescents and to facilitate to develop youth & adolescent champions on SRHR specially in slum or poor socio-economic areas supported by the project.
  • Provides technical Support to partner organization to form community action groups to identify MR, PAC, and contraceptive service needs and improving SRHR among slum dwellers
  • Technical support to partner organization to facilitate orientation of the community youth leaders on SGBV and SRHR issues.
  • Provide technical support to partner organization to create linkage between community and project supported private practitioners to ensure proper utilization of SRHR services 
  • Frequent visit of the project areas particularly slum and low socio-economic urban areas under the project to monitor the progress of the project implementation as per plan
  • Provide support and facilitate studies to capture SRHR issues and needs of the women and girls living in disadvantaged situation by engaging them and capturing their voice and emotions (through case studies, photo-voice or other methodology)
  • Support the observation of special days, including World Population Day, in selected garment factories and slums.
  • Coordinate with the health centres to carry out community engagement and youth mobilization activities on SRHR
  • Develops relationships with key stakeholders at community level to promote partnership and social networking models for youth.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science/journalism/communication or in related field, Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience at NGO/CSO in implementing, and evaluating Social Behavior Change (SBC) interventions, including community engagement and youth mobilization
  • Experience in designing, implementing and/or supporting social media campaigns and implementing digital communication strategies.
  • Working experience with community workers, youth activists to promote health and rights of women and girls including awareness creation on women’s rights and self-esteem.
  • Experience in training facilitation and strong interpersonal communication skill with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to frequently travel to the field at least 50% for supervision, monitoring, follow up/survey.
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel & PPT, and Bangla typing and editing
