Junior Research Assistant (Temporary) (01 position)

Position Background

The Junior Research Assistant will provide necessary support for the CGI program in the field to produce improved generations of carp (rohu, catla and silver carp) based at the Breeding and Research Platform in Jashore. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research activities related to breeding programs of carps (rohu, catla and silver carp).
  • Carryout PIT tagging, sampling, sexing, harvesting, breeding and measurement of water quality of ponds, hapas and Hatcheries.
  • Work for management of materials such as hapas, nets and machine of water supply etc. use for the breeding programs and management of ponds.
  • Support to conduct field research for rearing of rohu, catla and silver carp using different management practices.
  • Provide support to skilled worker and members of the fishing team.
  • Assist in netting fish, handling fish and undertaking other tasks in ponds.

Requirements

This job is open to Bangladesh Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Biological Science or relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience to work in the field of fisheries.
  • Have technical experience /skills in operation of hatcheries and aquaculture operations.
  • Good skills on handling and nursing of fish use for research platform.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.

Desired Skills and Qualification

  • Practical experience to carryout field based research and development activities in fisheries.
  • Computer Skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Have good experience in writing and record keeping. 

Benefits

This is a five (05) months temporary position with salary ranging between BDT38,000/- to BDT43,000/- per month. WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package inclusive of comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) paid annual leave, insurance coverage for staff, and pension/provident fund contribution.

Recruitment Process

This position will be based in Jashore, Bangladesh. Interviews are expected to be held in December 2021 and only shortlisted candidates will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence in December 2021 for an initial five (5) months temporary contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding availability.
