Solicitation to Promote Cost Effective Machinery for Aquaculture

Background

The Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity (BANA) is a five-year project of USAID intend to improve nutrition through growth in the aquaculture sector growth.  BANA works in 21 districts of southwestern Bangladesh and 02 districts in the southeast.

The contribution of fisheries sector in Bangladesh economy is enormous-- the per capita consumption of fish in Bangladesh is over 23 kilograms per year-- but most fish farmers follow traditional cultivation methods.

There are potential great gains in productivity and income to be achieved through increased mechanization in aquaculture.  By using appropriate technology, fish production could be doubled.

BANA would like to prompt improvements and is offering sub-grant for relevant private sector actors to promote aquaculture machineries by fish farmers, hatcheries, and nurseries.

Objective

BANA is looking for a partner or partners which will promote cost-effective aquaculture machineries, the distribution of them, and their use.  The aim is to advance mechanization for increased yield and greater economic return in aquaculture.

Scope of work

The selected partner(s) will develop a profitable business model and implementation strategy to minimize constrains of penetrating in markets to mechanizing aquaculture production.  The machines/technology can be of any type and address any constraint faced by actors in the farmed fish value chain.

The selected partner(s) will design and implement a program to create a market-ready product, promote it to a viable market segment, and establish appropriate distribution.

The marketing plan is of equal importance to the product design, and the successful applicant must present a concise but good quality marketing plan as part of the proposal.

  • Profitable business plan
  • Implementation strategy and timeline
  • Income statement/ROI from this business plan
  • Future plan of the business

Who can apply

Only qualified applicants should apply. "Qualified" means an enterprise or entrepreneur with sound qualifications related to small scale agricultural or aquaculture machinery.

Required documentation

If selected for the grant, the partner will be required to show:

  • A certificate of incorporation (for individual companies, a trade license);
  • Joint stock registration certificate (if applicable);
  • An organizational organogram of key personnel, inclusive of the names of such personnel;
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN);
  • VAT registration number;
  • Proof of a segregated account (providing the name and address of such an account);
  • Other valid papers (provided by government institutions).
  • The consulting firm must bear all annual income tax (AIT).
  • Percentage of VAT and total amount of VAT should be mentioned in the proposal.
