Position: Data Analyst & GIS Officer

CONTEXT:

Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L Bangladesh) is a non-profit organization, created by the French NGO Eau & Vie. The NGO is active in Bangladesh in the livelihood development of Urban Slum dwellers implementing Water Network, Firefighting, Hygiene promotion, Sanitation and Solid waste management activities.

W&L Bangladesh works in close association with the social business company Shobar Jonno Pani (SJP), created by Eau & Vie, which is specialized in safe water supply for lower income community who do not have access to water in Bangladesh, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks, which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban low-income community.

Both W&L Bangladesh and SJP engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders through two branches one in Dhaka and the other one in Chattogram.

LOCATION: Based in HO, Banani, Dhaka.
REPORTING TO: Monitoring &Evaluation Manager
COORDINATION WITH: Program Managers and Operations Managers of both W&L and SJP with coordination with the IT/Wamasys Consultant and Technical Advisor in France, all SJP and W&L teams in branches and at the Head Office, Country Director.

Job summary:

The position is divided into three (3) parts:

  • To be a Data Analyst Officer: SJP is monitoring all its operations (water access and consumption, all services payment collection etc.), with an in-house software. As a system and software analyst, s/he will monitor the software function and support the teams in the software management in order to guarantee smooth and reliable sales operations. Data cleaning including conducting all the required consistency checks in-house software. Keep record all previous and present data for any future queries.
  • To be the referent for Wamasys Activities: W&L is carrying out all its activities with an in-house software, just like SJP. As a system and software analyst, s/he will monitor the software function and support the teams in the software management in order to guarantee smooth and reliable activity logging and monitoring.
  • To be an IT Officer:  The person will be the referent person to contact regarding all computer’s topics for both SJP and W&L teams. S/He will be in charge of the back-up, filing management, computers and network use and checking.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Data Analyst Officer his/her responsibility shall include but not limited to the following:

  • System and Software Operations:
  • Support and train the teams
  • In the daily use of the software (operation software)
  • In the reporting analysis
  • Assist the data related work with any team members.
  • Monitor, audit and adjust if needed
  • the software processes and function
  • the data and results
  • the software uses
  • Follow-up tests on software functioning and potential bugs reports
  • Coordinate with
    • Operations teams
    • Finance teams
    • IT in France regarding software functions and bugs reports
    • Technical Advisor in France regarding software processes at the level of Eau et Vie level
  • Capitalize processes and documents
  • Supervising and assisting in all computer operation functions.
  • Providing technical assistance and training to user staff and to programming and operations personnel
  • Analyse and aggregate data to support to operations of SJP & Water and Life. Bangladesh.

IT:

  • To monitor the filing management:
  • Training teams on how to classify documents on the server
  • Monitoring the classification and in charge of the back-up files
  • To deal with computers management:
  • Set-up and maintenance on domestic Windows network
  • User station configuration
  • Training teams to basic offices software
  • To follow-up and monitor the computer equipment on all SJP and W&L branches in the Bangladesh.

Mapping and GIS Data Management

  • Ensure the harmonization and accuracy of the maps of the areas between the different cities.
  • Ensure the harmonization of the maps with Water & Life global requirements and other countries of intervention.
  • Prepare and update the general prospection maps for each city.
  • Organize and update the GIS data.
  • Support other teams in their use of QGIS as well as ensure security, storage and availability of all GIS and mapping data from W&L team
  • Ensure the security of the data as well as the storage and availability to other team members
  • Supports and provides input for the training program of the other team members for QGIS
  • Support the MEM and provide trainings to research officers of other branches in the realization of the studies and on the usage of research tools as Sphinx, QGIS, GPS, etc.
  • Actively participates in advanced trainings on the mentioned software when required and implements with the support the MEM.

Education

  • Graduate in CSE/CSc or Statistics or Economics or Geography (educational qualification can be relaxed for candidates with relevant experience).

Salary

  • BDT 28,000 to 33,000 (depends on candidate’s skills and experience)
