Position: Branch Manager

Context: Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L Bangladesh) is a non-profit organization, created by the French NGO Eau & Vie. The NGO is active in Bangladesh in the livelihood development of Urban Slum dwellers implementing Water Network, Firefighting, Hygiene promotion, Sanitation and Solid waste management activities.

W&L Bangladesh works in close association with the social business company Shobar Jonno Pani (SJP), created by Eau & Vie, which is specialized in safe water supply for lower income community who do not have access to water in Bangladesh, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks, which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban low income community.

Both W&L Bangladesh and SJP engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders through two branches one in Dhaka and the other one in Chattogram.

Position: Branch Manager

Location: Based in Chattogram City

Reporting to:
Operations Manager
Program Manager

Coordination:
All the managers of Water and Life Bangladesh and Shobar Jonno Pani.

JOB SUMMARY:

The role of the Branch Manager W&L is to be the link between the community facilitators and the Operations Manager / Program Manager.
He or she is responsible for the successful implementation of the activities from the planning to the evaluation in the branch.
He/She is the first representative of Water and Life in front of the community and is in charge of the respect of W&L values.
He/She is responsible for ensuring the good coordination with SJP
Finally, the Branch Manager is generally responsible for the overall management and operations of the Branch assigned.

Tasks & responsibilities:

Implementation of activities

  • Implements program or activities related to:
    • Hygiene: implement hygiene awareness activities (handwashing, water hygiene, menstrual hygiene) in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event: Global Handwashing Day, World Water Day, Menstrual Hygiene Day)
    • Community empowerment: create a Social Development Committee per new area and a WASH committee after some years of intervention, facilitates regular community meeting and community empowerment activities, work with the marginalized groups to favor their inclusion;
    • Firefighting: implements prevention session with the community, firefighting training with the fire brigade volunteers, first aid training and mock drill (fire drill and evacuation drill) with the brigade volunteers;
    • Sanitation: implement sanitation awareness activities in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event like the World Toilet Day);
    • Solid Waste Management: implement SWM awareness activities in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event like World Clean-up Day or community clean-up);
  • Responsible for administrative and logistics preparation for the planned activities;

Community Mobilization:

  • Motivate the inhabitants and the community leaders to be participative in any activities for the benefits of their community. The aim is to enable a participative, dynamic, empowered community group with a true vision for the improvement of its living conditions.

Reporting and planning

  • Prepare the monthly planning of the branch
  • Ensures and monitors that the activities are correctly implemented in the area
  • Reporting and updating W&L management about the ongoing activities in the field in written form.
  • Report concerns and issues and discuss actions to be taken.
  • Monitors and reports the activities carried out during each month. Elaborates the monthly report and complete your part of the monthly dashboard for the branch.
  • Participates in the coordination meetings.
  • Submits any suggestions to improve SJP/W&L programs.

Team Management

  • Manage the Community Facilitators
  • Manage the Finance and Admin Officer in coordination with the Finance & Administrative Manager

Stock management

  • Follow strictly the stock in coordination with the Finance and Admin department

Financial Responsibilities

  • Prepare the monthly budget forecast of the activities planned in the community
  • Coordinate with FAO for Monthly budget forecast and budget realization
  • Prepare the detailed budget of each mass event
  • Check the liquidation reports

Human Resources Responsibilities

  • Validate and monitor the leave of the Community Facilitators and Finance and Admin Officer
  • Monitor and enforce the implementation of the HR rules within the team

Coordination

  • Acts as one of the focal persons for all W&L Bangladesh activities with the targeted communities.
  • Build strong relationship with the community leaders and coordinate with them regarding the activities or any challenge faced
  • Coordinates with community representatives for updates and feedback from the field
  • Assist the OM in coordinating with the local administrative authority regarding the different development projects
  • Coordinates with the partners directly involved in the activities of the branch (BFSCD mainly)
  • Represents the organization to stakeholders and partners
  • Participates in local fundraising efforts

Others:
Any other relevant tasks assigned by the W&L Management. 

Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Social Science or Development Studies
  • Educational requirement can be relaxed for candidates with relevant experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years
  • At least 2 years of experience in a managerial position

Skills:

The applicant must demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Strong experience in working and organizing community
  • Strong social concern, patient and diplomatic approach.
  • Understanding of social and community issues or concerns
  • Skilled at necessary administration work (planning, finance and reporting)
  • Can establish good rapport local government or private partner agencies
  • Can work independently and pro-active
  • Sensitive ethics and compliance
  • Proven computer skills such as MS Office
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English and Bangla
  • Dynamic and team spirit

Salary Range: BDT 43,000 to 48,000 (depends on candidate’s skills and work experience)
