CONTEXT: Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L Bangladesh) is a non-profit organization, created by the French NGO Eau & Vie. The NGO is active in Bangladesh in the livelihood development of Urban Slum dwellers implementing Water Network, Firefighting, Hygiene promotion, Sanitation and Solid waste management activities.

W&L Bangladesh works in close association with the social business company Shobar Jonno Pani (SJP), created by Eau & Vie, which is specialized in safe water supply for lower income community who do not have access to water in Bangladesh, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks, which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban low income community.

Both W&L Bangladesh and SJP engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders through two branches one in Dhaka and the other one in Chattogram.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The role of the Project Executive W&L is to be the link between the community facilitators, the Operations Manager and the Program Manager.
  • He or she is responsible for the successful implementation of the activities from the planning to the evaluation in the branch.
  • He/She is also in charge of facilitating awareness activities directly in the community.
  • He/She is the first representative of Water and Life in front of the community and is in charge of the respect of W&L values.
  • He/She is responsible for ensuring the good coordination with SJP
  • Finally, the Project Executive is generally responsible for the overall management and operations of the Branch assigned.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Community-building / Reinforcement & Social Assistance

  • Acts as the focal person for all W&L Bangladesh activities with the targeted communities.
  • Motivate volunteer and community representatives to be participative in any activities for the benefits of their community. The aim is to enable a participative, dynamic, empowered community group with a true vision for the improvement of its living conditions.

Implementation of activities

  • Assesses the needs in the communities regarding to the Water and Life activities: Firefighting, Hygiene, Sanitation, Solid Waste Management, and Community Building
  • Implements program or activities related to:
  • o Firefighting: implements firefighting training with the fire brigade volunteers, first aid training and mock drill (fire drill and evacuation drill) with the community;
    • Sanitation: implement sanitation awareness activities in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event like the World Toilet Day);
    • Hygiene: implement hygiene awareness activities in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event: Global Handwashing Day, World Water Day, Menstrual Hygiene Day)
    • Solid Waste Management: implement SWM awareness activities in the community (group sessions with the target population and mass event like World Clean-up Day or community clean-up);
    • Community empowerment: facilitates regular community meeting and community empowerment activities;
  • Responsible for administrative and logistics preparation for the planned activities; also to communicate with the community members to perform the activities smoothly.
  • Within the Community-Public-NGO consultative partnership, implements any social sanitation services which have been elaborated and agreed upon. These can include communal CR, shower, washing blocks, recycling, composting and segregating stations, neighborhood cleaning teams etc.

Coordination

  • Coordinates with community representatives for updates and feedback from the field.
  • Organize regular community representatives’ meetings in order to improve their involvement in W&L in close collaboration with SJP.
  • Coordinates with the local administrative authority regarding the different development projects.
  • Coordinates with the partners involved in the project;
  • Coordinates with other agencies regarding the activities to get inputs, and advice that can be adapted to SJP/W&L WASH project.
  • Represents the organization to stakeholders and partners
  • Participates in local fundraising efforts.

Reporting

  • Reporting and updating W&L management about the ongoing activities in the field in verbal or written form. Report concerns and issues and discuss actions to be taken.
  • Participates in the coordination meetings
  • Submits any suggestions to improve SJP/W&L services.
  • Ensures and monitors that the activities are correctly implemented in the area
  • Monitors and reports, in coordination with the Operations Manager, the activities carried out during each month. Elaborates the monthly reports;
  • Coordinates with SJP, for any activity that requires the support of the area staff;
  • Verifies monthly reports of the area before submission to the head office for consolidation (e.g. check register, cash book, etc.);
  • Performs other tasks as maybe delegated.

Team Management

  • Manage Community Facilitator, Field Coordinator

Financial Responsibilities

  • Gives all necessary financial data -
  • Budget preparation on the planned activities in community
  • Coordinate with FAO for Monthly budget forecast and budget realization
  • Liquidation reports with all necessary documents
  • Coordinate with FAO for Monthly petty cash log and cheque voucher log

Others:
Employee shall additionally render such other and related services and duties as may be assigned to her from time to time by W&L Operations Manager

Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum Master Degree in Social Science/ Management/ Public health.
  • Knowledge in WASH project, community building, waste management or fire prevention
  • Social worker education will be an asset

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in similar position (Previous I/NGO or WASH Sector experience is an advantage)

Skills:

Salary Range: BDT 33,000 to 38,000 (depends on candidate’s skills and work experience)
