We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, and self-driven individual for the position of Associate Officer/Officer-Advocacy for our country office in Bangladesh.

Job purpose

The key purpose of this role is to streamlining process in advocacy level, play advisory role with partners in developing uniformity of work, taking initiatives in order to developing sector capacity. S/he will be writing reports, manuals, policy briefs on specific issues and other publications relevant to policy and advocacy. In addition, the role will be accountable for supporting team in achieving aims of climate resilience & related programmes.

Key responsibilities

  • Play an active role in achieving WaterAid Bangladesh (WAB) advocacy agenda
  • Review and analyse climate change, Health and other relevant sector Policies, strategies to support organizational advocacy priority of Universal access to WASH
  • Pursue knowledge management and reporting process of the programme portfolio and relevant projects
  • Support in promoting project activities in line with national and global climate activism/ agenda
  • Support in climate advocacy in collaboration with partner NGOs at different level in accordance with organization’s goals as appropriate
  • Develop evidence-based policy brief/ advocacy messages through developing and implementing research agenda and sectoral analysis with assistance/guidance from DPPA and other colleagues.
  • Facilitate and coordinate sector capacity development initiatives ranging from grassroots, national and international level following WA programmatic approach
  • Contribute in writing reports, manuals, policy briefs on specific issues and other publications relevant to policy and advocacy
  • Support different programms and partners in identifying advocacy issues and designing and achieving advocacy goal and targets for this
  • Facilitate overall networking and collaborative agenda of WA in terms of WASH
  • Undertake actions related to WA advocacy priority and plans and support in organising different events for this including event management and documentation of outcome and follow-up
  • Facilitate and coordinate with academia for timely delivery of output of joint research collaboration

These responsibilities are subject to change upon reviewing by the line manager from time to time.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/ PERSONAL PROFILE:

Education, knowledge and Experience:

  • Master’s in economics or Development Studies or Social Sciences. Graduates in engineering or public health who are willing to develop career in advocacy may also apply.
  • At least 01/03 years working experience preferably in the development field. This can be relaxed in case of excellent academic attainment or higher studies from renowned universities at home/abroad; and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Courage for multi-tasking ability to produce results individually or through team work within tight deadlines
  • Ability of performing in a multi-sectoral environment.
  • Ability to identify priorities, design programs and produce deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical ability to analyse policies, strategies and can extract advocacy and influential agenda for the WA
  • Experience in, policy/ strategy/ action plan formulation, report/ article writing and documentation
  • Work/Research experience with Government/ Development Partners and INGOs and/or good understanding of Government and Development Partner’s work environment would be an added advantage
  • Understanding of Rights Based Approach and knowledge of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene issues of Bangladesh is preferred.

Professional and Technical Skills:

  • Ability to establish good relationship and rapport with stakeholders and partners; allure cooperation from other teams and maintain networks outside the organization.
  • Ability to write in Bangla (Bijoy or any other software).  
  • Skills to use different technological resources (computer, multimedia projector, internet, email, computer aided systems, widely used software etc).
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation and writing skill both in Bangla & English is mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and networking skill.
  • Media (Print, electronic and Social media) relations skills
  • Knowledge and skills of planning and budgeting, report writing

Competencies:

  • Must be a person who is self-motivated with good interpersonal skills and capacity to understand and work with different people.
  • Possess personal integrity, flexible attitude, sense of transparency, proactive stance and respect for gender and organizational culture.
  • Competent to uphold organizational values, willingness to promote integrity in line with organizational mission and vision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Reportable to : Director-Programmes and Policy Advocacy (DPPA)
Contract Tenure : Fixed Term till 31 March 2026 with a possibility of extension
Workstation : Dhaka, Bangladesh
Working Hours : Full time (05 days in a week, minimum 37.5 hours per week)
