WaterAid (WA) Bangladesh is an international non-government, not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene a normal part of everyday life for everyone, everywhere. WaterAid currently is looking for a dynamic, committed, passionate and self-driven individual for the position of ‘Senior Technical Officer’ for its country office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for enhancing sectoral and internal capacity in line with country programme strategy and the quality of internal research along with coordination among collaborators/partners. S/he is expected to manage project(s) or specific body of work by her/his own. This position requires proactive personnel to manage the project cycle, including work priorities, tasks, people, project budget, administration, and reporting.

Moreover, this position is responsible for expanding organisational portfolio through dissemination of knowledge, and good practices on attaining water crisis and practice of sustainable technologies in Bangladesh. S/he is expected to understand one’s role and will be responsible for seeking inputs from colleagues of internal and external networks to meet objectives and project deliverables within a specialist area and deadline by maintaining active coordination with Programmes, Business Development and Fundraising (BDF); Policy and Advocacy (PA); Communications, Media, and Campaign (CMC) teams.

Key Responsibilities: As one of the key members of Technical WASH team, key responsibilities of this position include (not necessarily limited into):

    • Lead/support different initiative and/or project aligning SDG6 and country programme strategy
    • Visit programme/project intervention areas as necessary to ensure smooth execution of project activities and accomplishment of desired project deliverables
    • Coordinate/conduct assessments like situation analysis for safely managed water/sanitation services, technical feasibility studies etc
    • Assess performance of different pilot initiatives and suggest ways forward for necessary improvement of technology/infrastructure/approach
    • Initiate joint studies/research and contribute to evaluation of project/initiative
    • Plan and facilitate different capacity enhancement events (eg meeting, training, workshop)
    • Contribute to the review and formulation/localisation of organisational and/or national policy/guideline
    • Strengthen inter and intra departmental and organisational collaboration to ensure necessary support following the nature of the project
    • Organise periodic meeting with relevant internal and external programme/project partners
    • Build rapport or maintain liaison with a wide range of development partners and stakeholders to facilitate dialogues on strategic WASH issue
    • Participate in various workshop, seminar, and meeting as representative of WaterAid
    • Build/enhance partnership with academia and research organisation to influence WASH agenda
    • Initiate/manage partnership with relevant national and international organisations in line with country programme strategy
    • Document learnings and publish and/or present significant work/papers in international forum/conference and peer reviewed journals
    • Support Technical Lead in liaison with WA UK and south Asia region to work collaboratively for learning-sharing of good practices and support relevant study or research as appropriate

Requisite qualifications and experience

    • BSc degree in Civil /Environmental/ Water Resources Engineering from any recognised and reputed University of Bangladesh or abroad; However, Civil Engineering will be preferred. Masters or equivalent degree will be appreciated
    • Understanding of the issues relating to water, sanitation and hygiene in national and global context is essential
    • 05 (Five) to 06 (six) years demonstrated working experience in engineering field and/or development sector and/or WASH
    • Proven experience of independently designing/implementing WASH infrastructures and/or research and/or facilitating capacity development initiatives
    • Excellent computer skill, and hands on experience in software/platform for data collection, analysis, programming, and modelling etc.
    • Strong analytical skills, and capacity to work independently and meet tight deadlines
    • Admirable leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills
    • Written and verbal communication skills both in Bangla and English
Reportable to : Technical Lead
Workstation : Dhaka, Bangladesh
Contract tenure : 02 years (project based fixed Term), with a possibility of extension.
Salary & benefits : Monthly gross salary is BDT 88000/-. may be negotiable for deserving candidate corresponding to higher credentials; Other benefits include provident fund, gratuity, festival bonus, life insurance for self, health insurance for self, spouse and children, cell phone allowances etc. as per policy provision.
