WaterAid (WA) Bangladesh is an international non-government, not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene a normal part of everyday life for everyone, everywhere. WaterAid currently is looking for a dynamic, committed, passionate and self-driven individual for the position of ‘Technical Officer’ for its country office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Job Purpose:
This position requires proactive personnel in supporting tasks and activities performed across the team. S/he is expected to perform specific tasks using existing systems and processes to achieve the job which will contribute to specific programme/project or the attainment of country programme strategy. S/he will prioritise own workflow and coordinate within team as directed by line manager. Also, responsible to support activities under programme/ project cycle (capacity review, gap identification, assessment, analysis, design, planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation).
Moreover, this position is responsible for strengthening sector and organisational portfolio through promotion of green initiatives, technological innovation, policy/guideline development, dissemination of knowledge, and integration with network partners contributing to the management of water crisis and practice of sustainable technologies in Bangladesh. Active coordination with Programmes, Business Development and Quality Assurance (BDQA); Policy and Advocacy (PA); Communications, Media and Campaign (CMC) team for designing, planning, and piloting/ implementing ideas/projects involving climate resilient technologies and approaches to ensure clean water, safe sanitation, and good hygiene for all.
Key Responsibilities: As one of the key members of Technical WASH team, key responsibilities of this position include (not necessarily limited into):
- Conceptualisation of green and climate resilient technologies that contributes to the locally led adaptation approach or nature-based solutions to ensure safe water and sanitation provisions and water security
- Contribute to the review and formulation/localisation of organisational and/or national policy/guideline
- Identify and facilitate development of context specific climate resilient technological option/technical innovation and pilot the interventions according to local demand for safe water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Support in accreditation of innovative/novel technologies for the country programme to be initiated in any programme/project for addressing need of the climate context, SDG6, etc.
- Visit programme/project intervention areas as necessary to provide support for designing and piloting innovative technical interventions
- Document learnings and best practices from various interventions/ initiatives and disseminate the same jointly with the respective programme/project
- Develop case studies/technical briefs and share best practice to contribute to knowledge management of the organisation
- Design and implementation of digital utility services under relevant programmes/ projects
- Initiate periodic revision of design manual for interventions to ensure safe water, decent toilet, and good hygiene
- Strengthen interdepartmental collaboration by coordinating with other teams to ensure necessary support following their need
- Plan and facilitate different advocacy events/campaign (eg meeting, training, workshop) to promote green and/or climate resilient technologies
- Contribute in PMER related tasks by ensuring proper documentation, reporting, and presentation
- Provide necessary support to Technical Lead in representation of country programme in different committees, networks, alliances, workshops, and meetings as designated
Requisite qualifications and experience:
- B.Sc degree in Civil /Environmental/ Water Resources Engineering from any recognised and reputed University of Bangladesh or abroad; However, Civil Engineering will be preferred. Masters or equivalent degree will be appreciated
- Understanding of the issues relating to WASH and climate change in national and global context
- 02 (Two) to 03 (three) years demonstrated working experience in engineering field and/or development sector
- Proven experience of independently designing infrastructures including WASH facilities
- Excellent computer skill, and hands on experience of computer aided design platforms and analytical software like CAD, GIS, etc.
- Strong analytical skills, and capacity to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Admirable leadership, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Written and verbal communication skills both in Bangla and English
