WaterAid (WA) Bangladesh is an international non-government, not-for-profit organisation, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation through convincing the governments to change laws, linking policy makers with people on the ground, pooling knowledge and resources, and rallying support from people and organisations from different corners for making lasting change happen on a massive scale is looking for a dynamic, committed, passionate and self-driven individual for the position of ‘Senior Communications Officer’ for its country office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Job purpose:

WaterAid is at an exciting time. With an ambition to bring clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene to everyone, everywhere by 2030, there’s a need for greater engagement in all platforms with all people from different backgrounds; The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for coordinating and implementing the overall communications plan for the organisation in line with organisational objectives. Increasing engagement with key audiences through effective storytelling, content strategy and production of publications is critical along with building WaterAid’s digital and traditional media relationships. This position also manages organic social media and website content.

Key Responsibilities includes (not necessarily limited to):

  1. Responsible for the planning, organisation, and implementation of WaterAid’s communication strategies in line to new country programme needs.
  2. Ensure that all external communications including publications, media, marketing materials, merchandise and online content are consistent with WaterAid’s global verbal and brand guidelines.
  3. Write and/or commission content for programmes, projects, media and communications materials, and oversee the production and distribution of annual report, media releases, blogs, social media and web content.
  4. Champion WaterAid’s storytelling approach, driving improvements in the processes required to capture engaging stories for WaterAid’s diverse audience.
  5. Work with staff in the country programmes, across departments, unit, region and the global teams to collect and share stories, case studies, photos and videos, and coordinate local and overseas trips.
  6. Produce engaging, targeted communications for general audience for increasing engagement and education, while providing communications support to the organisation and its activities.
  7. Develop and implement media and campaign strategies to obtain media coverage in a variety of outlets, particularly during key moments such as World Water Day (22 March), MHM Day (28 May) and World Toilet Day (19 November).
  8. Manage relationships and write briefs for external communications suppliers such as designers, copywriters, filmmakers
  9. Manage WaterAid’s ambassador and influencer relationships and work closely with internal spokespeople including the Country Director and Directors. Develop media brief for Head of CMC, CMTs and Country Director and extend support and technical write up for media interviews and media pitch
  10. Ensure that WaterAid’s communications activities meet Global Safeguarding and Code of Conduct and child safeguarding.
  11. Work collaboratively with WaterAid international colleagues to achieve communications targets and roll out national and global campaigns
  12. Manage organic content for WaterAid’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube), and moderate online communities.
  13. Manage website content and upload content and articles to the WaterAid website.
  14. Maintain key contact database of stakeholders including journalists, influential media profiles and maintain a regular collaborative relationship 
  15. Undertake specific work as assigned by the line manager and or WaterAid authority as per need of the organization.

Responsibilities are subject to review by the line manager from time to time.

Requisite qualifications and experience:

  • Masters or equivalent degree preferably in communications, public relations, marketing or relevant subject from any recognized university.
  • Minimum 05 (five) years’ demonstrable experience in the relevant communications field along with managing complex communications strategies across different programme, project and areas. For excellent academic attainment or graduation/post-graduation from abroad with fast-track professional expansion, the years of experience may be relaxed.
  • An excellent track record in communications strategy, management, and implementation
  • Creative flair, experience, and expertise
  • Provable, practical experience of strong communication skills in managing critical communications and public engagement needs.
  • Highly developed demonstrated copy writing skills
  • Strong hold of English and Bengali writing including development of stories and case studies, briefs and impact report for general audience
  • Ability to provide effective support and to collaborate and coordinate across different teams from diverse background.
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks and blisteringly urgent deadlines.
  • Self-driven and ability to work independently or with minimum supervision
  • Demonstrate respect for gender, diversity, organizational cultural and promote safeguarding and uphold organizational values

Reportable to - Head of Communications, Media and Campaigns
Working hours - Full time (05 days and minimum 37.5 hours per week)
Contract tenure - Fixed Term, for 02 year, with a possibility of extension
Salary & benefits - Monthly initial gross salary is BDT 87000/-; may be negotiable for deserving candidate corresponding to higher skill, competency, and experience; Benefits include provident fund, gratuity, festival bonus, life insurance for self, health insurance for self, spouse and children, cell phone allowances etc. as per policy provision.
