Summary of Assignment:

The Digital Advocacy Campaigner will lead on a 10-month project to work with several of our digital platforms to support the planning and delivery of holistic digital campaigning approaches that help achieve national advocacy objectives.

This role works closely with advocacy, digital, media and global communications colleagues to ensure that ambitious and strategic digital and social media engagement plays an integral role in mobilising communities and amplifying our message to decision-makers, maximising attention given to the water and sanitation crisis, and helping to achieve national change.

As the organisation’s digital campaigning specialist, you will share and embed best practice across the WaterAid family, focusing on maximising opportunities offered by influencing moments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic guidance and support

      • Work with WaterAid digital space to develop comprehensive digital campaigning strategies, based on national advocacy objectives and the global advocacy priorities for the organisation.
      • Work with advocacy, policy and programme team to identify the most appropriate digital approaches to achieve policy change: assessing external audiences, identifying the most impactful digital channels and influencers, and ensuring an approach where digital activities complement other advocacy activities to maximise country teams’ effectiveness.
      • Work with teams to identify appropriate metrics and measurement tools to analyse the impact of digital campaigning activities, identifying ways these can be embedded into established monitoring  and   & evaluation  systems.

2. Content delivery and development

      • Develop content planners, content and key communications materials including posters, statics posts, films, OVCs, etc., in line to WaterAid brand guideline for planned activities on digital space around advocacy projects and programmes
      • Provide timely feedback to agency as they develop and manage digital content in a variety of formats to ensure it is user-focused, action-oriented and fits within a holistic digital approach.

3. Skills development

      • Work with advocacy and communications teams to identify digital skills gaps and provide training or on-project support to build skills and knowledge within the orgnisation and partners.
      • Identify additional digital communications technical support and resource needs, and work with teams across the  WaterAid  to bring in  expertise and  support.

4. Thought leadership on scaling up digital advocacy:

      • Be an active member in meetings with communications and advocacy colleagues in order to contribute to the wider coordination of information sharing, planning and delivery as it relates to the key needs of the project.
      • Document learning from digital advocacy across the country and build on learning from global work and present internally to the WaterAid in order to showcase opportunities to use comprehensive digital approaches for advocacy.
      • Keep up to date with emerging digital trends and sector activity, identifying the implications for WaterAid’s national digital campaigning, sharing and embedding best practice across the organisation.

Requisite qualifications, experience, and attributes:

Essential skills

      • Master’s degree level on communications, digital media, politics, mass media, and social science and/or equivalent substantial work experience minimum 4 years.
      • Track record of planning and delivering comprehensive digital campaigns based on audience insight and that achieve advocacy impact.
      • A keen savviness and proven application to achieve political change.
      • Ability to translate complex information into compelling messages and narratives that have traction with target audiences.
      • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the current social media landscape across the world and regional/national variances; the key platforms, their audiences, and their potential benefit for WaterAid.
      • Extensive editorial skills, including commissioning, creating and publishing tailored digital content and making sound judgements regarding copy, imagery, video and user interaction.
      • Proven experience in, and active knowledge, of content marketing – earned, owned, shared and paid digital media.
      • Excellent, accurate written and verbal communication skills in English and Bengali.
      • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premier, Illustrator or other image editing tools, as well as content management systems (ideally including Drupal).
      • An organised and thorough approach to planning and managing projects, with the ability to use own initiative to meet deadlines on competing priorities and drive results.
      • Knowledge of a range of measuring tools (including social media management tools and Google Analytics) and the ability to understand and translate data and analytics into successful digital strategies.
      • Commitment to sharing digital skills across the organisation, WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these.
