Knowledge Management Consultant for Water.org Workshop:
Exploring Investment Opportunities for Banks and MFIs in Bangladesh in the Water Sanitation Sector

About Water.org

Water.org is an international development agency with operations in 11 countries. We work with financial institutions including banks and micro finance institutions (MFIs) to pioneer innovative, market-based solutions to ensure all people have access to safe water and sanitation. Till date, we have reached over 6 million in Bangladesh and 49 million people globally with our loan-based programs.

Background of the Workshop

The workshop will include roundtable discussions with multiple stakeholders including financial regulators, banks, MFIs to explore potential avenues for commercial investment by banks in the water and sanitation sector. The event will be driven by two sessions:

  • Identifying existing opportunities and challenges for commercial banks in financing the WSS sector
  • Designing potential interventions by Water.org to enable commercial financing from FIs to the sector.

This event is a part of Water.org’s initiative called the Sustainable WASH Finance Consultative Group (SWAFINA) event. It will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Objective

The objective of the consultancy is to produce a brief yet insightful report that captures key insights from the two sessions. The report will be used by Water.org for internal stakeholders as well as external meetings and discussions.

Key activities

Given this objective, key activities to be completed under this assignment include:

  • Taking notes during the roundtable discussion sessions
  • The consultant will use video recording of the event as well as his/her own notes taken during the event to finalize the report.
  • The consultant may seek technical input from Water.org Bangladesh while preparing the report
  • Meeting with Water.org team on discussions prior to the event
  • The report should not be any longer than 10 to 15 pages.

Competencies & Qualifications

  • This position requires strong English report writing skills
  • At least a bachelor's degree in social sciences, humanities, development studies from leading local or international universities
  • At least 3 years of work experience in international NGOs, and other private or public sector organizations
  • Experience in Water Sanitation related programs and projects will be given priority
  • Prior experience in writing reports for domestic and international audiences is mandatory

Indicative Project Budget and Timeline

Water.org has allocated a maximum budget of BDT 100,000 inclusive of VAT and Tax for this project with applicable VAT and taxes to be deducted from this amount. The proposed timeline for this consultancy is from October 22 to October 31, 2022.
