Communications Products for Bangladesh Business Case Study

Background

About Water.org
Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org pioneers market-driven financial solutions to the global water and sanitation crisis. For 30 years, we’ve been providing women hope, children health and families a future.

Thus far, we have reached 39 million people in 17 countries with water and sanitation solutions.

In Bangladesh, we have positively transformed more than 4.2 million lives by mobilizing capital of more than $266 million.

Summary
Currently, Water.org Bangladesh is directly supporting Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) as partners through grants and technical assistance to provide affordable financing for water and sanitation solutions. We call this program “WaterCredit” since our work enables water and sanitation loans through which borrowers can create water and sanitation assets such as tube wells, latrines, etc.

As a next step in our evolution, Water.org is designing partnerships with commercial banks and other financial institutions to deepen the market of water and sanitation financing. To this end, Water.org undertook a business case study to help persuade commercial financial institutions in Bangladesh, such as banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) to view water and sanitation (WSS) sector as an attractive market for lending.

Water.org is currently undertaking efforts to synthesize insights across from the business case study and develop communication materials for internal and external audiences. Outputs for this synthesis include the following communication products:

  1. Executive Summary of the Business Case Study
  2. Case studies on Financial Institutions (FIs)
  3. Policy briefing note

Scope of work – Communications Products for Bangladesh Business Case Study

Aim and objectives
This project will develop communication products for Water.org that include an Executive summary of the Business case study, case studies on the FIs studied in the business case report, and policy briefing notes addressing the Bangladesh government.

The communication products developed under this project will enable Water.org to communicate our experience and expertise to other FIs to encourage them to partner with us, and also to help the Bangladesh government learn how Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) lending can add value to their organization.

The consultant for this project will plan and design communication materials that resonate across the targeted audiences in a powerful and actionable way with the larger goal to help increase the uptake of the WaterCredit model.

The communications products for Bangladesh Business Case Study would seek to accomplish the following objectives:

a. With the help of the Water.org team, extract and synthesize key information from the business case report as is pertinent to the two outlined audiences: FIs, and the Bangladesh government.
b. Develop and design highly polished and professional content, keeping each audience’s main communication preferences in mind.

Audience
The communications products for Bangladesh Business Case Study should be developed and designed for two main audience groups:

  • FIs (Banks, MFIs, NBFIs) who are currently not Water.org partners, but may benefit from a partnership
  • Bangladesh government and policy makers who work on the water sanitation supply side

Deliverables, to be delivered in both Bangla and English

  1. Introduction to WaterCredit Program: A simple 2-page document explaining Water.org’s presence in Bangladesh, specifically including: the types of support Water.org can offer, program impact to date, and a brief partner & beneficiary story.
  2. Four case study products: Based on the information presented in the business case study, design attractive and professional business case communication products. Each case study should be consolidated into a 2-page document that summarizes challenges faced by the partner, Water.org’s involvement, and the impact of Water.org’s involvement, including 1 brief beneficiary story.
  3. Briefing note (2-3 pages): Based on the research collected in the business case, design attractive and informational policy briefing notes aimed to help the Bangladesh government and policymakers understand how WaterCredit can benefit their programs and country-level targets.
