Summary:

In Bangladesh, Water.org works with Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) as partners, helping them to develop Water and Sanitation lending portfolios through which borrowers can create water and sanitation assets such as tube wells, latrines, etc. Water.org is designing partnerships with commercial banks and other financial institutions to deepen the market of water and sanitation financing.

Germane to this newly created role, Water.org is building relationships with sector leaders and government organizations that can substantively propel Water and Sanitation financing, under an imperative to contribute to financing SDG. The Engagement Manager role is an individual contributor role, responsible for developing and managing relationships with systems-level players in the Water and Finance sectors. Execution of this role involves close coordination with Water.org’s Head Office and the Bangladesh Country Director.  This position reports to the Bangladesh Country Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and activate a pragmatic and strategic roadmap for advocacy engagement with systems-level players in the Water and Finance Sectors, building and managing effective relationships with large international NGOs, apex organizations like PKSF, line ministries and government functions such as Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank, Prime Minister’s Office, SDG Coordination Committee.
  • Activate the roadmap through leading and convening meetings, discussions, presentations, seminars, and workshops; collaborate cross functionally with Water.org team members as required
  • Coordinate with local and global Monitoring Evaluation and Learning function to record the impact of advocacy activities as well as produce learning notes that demonstrate thought leadership
  • Serve as the Project Manager for at least two Water.org pilots, starting in 2019, with peer-level international NGOs aimed at providing water and sanitation financing solutions through innovative channels such as agent banking, water ATMs, etc.
  • As Project Manager, coordinate efforts of existing Water.org Program Managers, to leverage their technical input as required into the said pilot projects
  • Generate timely reports on partner performance on the pilots in conjunction with Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Grants Management team to develop and review written proposals and progress reports, connecting donor interests to Water.org's Bangladesh programs
  • Assist Country Director in overall strategy development for the Bangladesh country function

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Passion for relationship-management, networking, and driving value through engagement
  • Post-graduate degree from a leading local or global university in any field
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience of demonstrated advancement in strategic roles, relationship management and advocacy. Candidates with prior work experience in advocacy with multilateral organizations, government organizations, and financial services organizations will be given preference. Some experience in leadership in the private sector will be prioritized.
  • Prior work experience in Financial Services and/or Water and Sanitation sectors in Bangladesh is required
  • Prior work experience in donor-funded project design, piloting and end-to-end project management
  • Strong spoken and written English communication skills
  • Strong demonstrated work ethic and emotional intelligence

Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
