U.S. Embassy Dhaka is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Agricultural Assistant.

The Agricultural Assistant is responsible for representing the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Bangladesh. The incumbent researches and prepares reports that provide commodity and trade policy intelligence to U.S. industry and Government. The incumbent also prepares reports on other topics of relevance for the assigned agricultural commodities or industry sectors in the incumbent’s portfolio. The incumbent assists in formulating and guiding major research efforts on multiple commodity and policy problems and situations having a critical impact on U.S. agricultural trade with host country, particularly regarding assigned commodities. Responsibilities also include advocating for U.S. agricultural interests by developing and implementing projects, identifying appropriate actions and assisting in resolving trade problems. The incumbent identifies, develops, and maintains professional and social relationships and consultative contacts at the working level (non-senior management) to gain information, facilitate future working relationships, and gain cooperation on substantive matters. The incumbent reports to the Agricultural Attaché.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Business Administration. (You must attach a copy of your bachelor’s degree certificate along with your application form.)
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible work experience in one or more fields of agricultural economics/policy/commodity trade, or program management or marketing analysis/research that includes significant analysis and report writing is required.
  • Level 4 (Fluency) Speaking/Reading/Writing in both English and Bangla is required. These may be tested. The incumbent should be able to prepare correspondence and draft reports that require minimal editing, to communicate effectively with English speaking staff, and to serve as translator in informal settings.
  • Customer service, professionalism, networking, economic and business analysis, innovation, judgment, communication, organizing and planning, teamwork, English and Bangla language skills in speaking and writing.
