Empowering women’s CSOs to ensure good governance (WEE) project
Traidcraft Exchange, Bangladesh

Traidcraft Exchange works for trade and climate justice. In South Asia and East Africa, we support farmers, workers and artisans to benefit from more sustainable and equitable trade, and in the UK we advocate and campaign for changes to business practices and government policy.

Established in 1979, our vision is a world freed from the scandal of poverty where trade is just, and people and communities can flourish. Our approach to fighting poverty – trading, supporting and influencing – is what makes us unique.

Traidcraft recently started an EU funded governance project, WEE that contributes to achieving the global objective by enhancing the ability of local partners and grassroots women civil society organisations to participate in governance and development processes in Bangladesh. The project is working to build capacity of 500 women CSOs and their federated bodies to contribute to the advancement of gender equality, women's empowerment for inclusive development and the participation of marginalised women in local governance. The project is also working to economically empower the women CSOs to ensure that they are self-sustainable in their own communities and promote women’s economic rights and access to decent work in the informal and formal sectors. Moving away from traditional agriculture and handicraft based solution, this project is trying to engage women with formal value chain and capacitate them to run their own business following cooperative governance mechanism. At this stage. we are looking for Consultants/firms with a minimum of seven to ten years’ experience to conduct a market feasibility study for establishing Women Community Store as part of diversifying women’s income opportunities. The detail of this assignment is outlined in the ToR.
