Background: In light of growing mental health needs and the demand for structured career guidance among school students and their families, this assignment aims to strengthen the school-based support system. The initiative includes mental health counselling, career group counselling for students and parents, and individual counselling sessions for students. The interventions will ensure improved emotional well-being, future readiness, and stronger parent-student-school collaboration. Under the framework of “Somotar Alo-Light of Equality through sponsorship” - Education, Protection and empowerment for Marginalized Children and Adolescents project Terre des Hommes Italy is looking for a competent person for the position of Counsellor (Junior Officer)” for its country office.

Objectives: To deliver counselling sessions and develop structured, practical training outlines and session plans for the following activities:

  • Mental Health Counselling Sessions for students in project area
  • Career Counselling (Group Sessions) for both students and parents
  • Individual Counselling for students from Class 8 to Class 12

Job Responsibilities

  1. Design Contextual Mental Health Sessions:
    • Develop age-appropriate and context-sensitive training outlines and session plans for mental health counselling in schools.
    • Focus on key areas such as emotional resilience, stress coping mechanisms, and interpersonal skills development.
  2. Facilitate Group Career Counselling:
    • Prepare and deliver structured group counselling sessions separately for students and parents.
    • Cover essential topics including career awareness, decision-making skills, and future academic or vocational pathways.
  3. Develop Individual Counselling Framework:
    • Create a standardized framework and session flow for one-on-one career counselling with students.
    • Integrate assessment tools to evaluate student interests, establish personal and academic goals, and provide customized guidance.
  4. Ensure Quality of Training Materials:
    • Design and produce interactive, inclusive, and culturally relevant support materials suitable for school settings.
    • Include handouts, reflection exercises, and feedback mechanisms.
  5. Conduct On-site Facilitation:
    • Facilitate counselling sessions across selected schools and community centers in urban slum areas of Dhaka and in Kurigram district.
    • Ensure all sessions are accessible and sensitive to the needs of marginalized and underserved student populations.
  6. Deliver Comprehensive Training Packages:
    • Submit finalized training outlines and session plans for mental health and career counselling (group and individual formats).
    • Provide all supporting materials, including feedback forms, to support implementation and evaluation.

Employment Status: Contractual

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master's degree (preferable) in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Counseling or a related discipline

Experience Requirements

  • 2 years of experience working with international or national NGOs.


Additional Requirements •          

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in conducting mental health and career     counselling sessions is required; additional experience will be considered an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting adolescent mental health and career counselling sessions
  • Experience in group facilitation and one-on-one counseling in school or youth-centered programs
  • Strong communication, session design, and reporting skills
  • Sensitivity to diverse school populations and gender-inclusive approaches
  • Familiarity with urban and rural education challenges, particularly in slum settings and remote areas
  • Computer literate with experience in MS office
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Bengali is an asset
  • Proven ability to build rapport with individuals and groups and maintain an effective network of individuals across organizational departments as well externally
  • High level of commitment and integrity

Salary

  • Negotiable (35,000-40,000)
