OFFICER- BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (BDS)

Swisscontact was established in 1959 as an independent foundation of the Swiss Industry for international development co-operation. Swisscontact currently employs over 1,100 staff worldwide and manages 136 projects in 40 countries on behalf of public and private donors.

Swisscontact operates in Bangladesh for more than 50 years with projects mainly in Vocational Training, Labour Market Development and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems.

PRABRIDDHI is a project to foster Local Economic Development in selected Municipalities of Bangladesh, funded by Switzerland and Government of Bangladesh, and co-implemented by Swisscontact and the Local Government Department (LGD).

Position: Officer - Business Development Services (BDS)

Employment starts: September 2023

Contract duration: Initial contract for one year; based on performance, the contract can be extended.

Place of work: Dhaka with regular (up to 50%) visit to the project field locations outside Dhaka.

Tasks

  • Support analysis of key economic sectors in the selected municipalities to understand constraints and opportunities of working with enterprises at the micro level and at the MESO level;
  • Support development of concept notes and intervention strategies for BDS and supply chain development for the key economic sectors at the municipalities
  • Support monitoring and review implementation of BDS initiatives at the Micro and MESO level through planning and partnership development with relevant stakeholders and drivers;
  • Support in identifying commercial viability of various solutions such as skill-development initiatives and Business Development Services at Micro and MESO level;
  • Provide strategic inputs and support to ensure programme’s goal are met through integration of transversal themes focusing on gender mainstreaming, climate change and youth entrepreneurship;
  • Ensure knowledge exchange and learning across municipalities and at the national level to inform and adapt integration of transversal themes in local economic development.

Requirements

The individual must conform to the following qualifications and expertise:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social science or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, social science or related discipline;
  • At least 1 year of experience in the reputed organizations, national NGOs or iNGO/ development organization/ private sector in similar roles;
  • Support in identifying commercial viability of various solutions such as youth entrepreneurship models, skill-development initiatives according to scope of work;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla;
  • A creative and motivated individual with the ability to think out of the box and take ownership of tasks;
  • Works with trustworthiness and integrity and is committed to Swisscontact's core values; and
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to gender and diversity (including sensitivity towards differently abled people).
