Technical Specialist – Climate Adaptation and Youth Engagement

The Opportunity

This position will involve providing technical and operational support to field programs, while collaborating with implementing partners to enhance community resilience in managing access to safe drinking water. The Technical Specialist will also work closely with local government bodies, community-based organizations, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to facilitate the implementation of adaptive capacity building initiatives, support the local youth-based organizations with the knowledge and capacity to be agents of change and engage them to promote youth led climate solutions. The responsibilities of the Technical Specialist will deal with a wide range of activities, including, strengthening community resilience in establishing efficient water management systems for drinking water, enhancing surface water management, governance, and conservation through nature-based solutions, and leveraging local knowledge. Additionally, the Specialist will facilitate collaboration among existing youth-based organizations and youth-led initiatives, encouraging idea sharing, advocacy, and effective actions to promote sustainable water management practices. This position will collaborate with the Manager-Resilience and Climate Change to create operational strategies and guidelines for the project's effective implementation as well as engage in the development of new projects related to resilience and climate change with support from on-the-ground knowledge and experience. This position will require expertise in community resilience building, locally led adaptation training, nature-based solutions, working knowledge of climate change adaptation, and working with youth-based organizations to promote climate action with evidence.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 5 years’ working experience and knowledge, preferably in building community resilience, climate change adaptation, youth engagement in climate action, Nature based Solution and Locally Led Adaptation
  • Proven working experience in youth-based organization management in climate action.
  • A proven track record for the successful development and implementation of climate change and resilience project in coastal districts, preferably Khulna Region
  • Proven campaign management skills for youth climate action and multi-stakeholder platforms for child rights protection and environmental sustainability   
  • Sound understating on the national and international climate change adaptation policy, SDGs, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
  • Strong understanding of policy making processes both in local and national level and demonstrated experience of working with stakeholders in the government and donors on advocacy and policy change
  • Proven Climate change adaptation project proposal development experience for the development project
  • Strong project management, partnership management and budget management skills
  • Need to have clear understanding of CDM business model in drinking water field (piloted by Glory & Tech in Bangladesh)
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Child Protection programming.
  • Master’s degree, preferably in Social Science, environmental science, climate change, or relevant discipline
