Senior Officer - Lab Technologist

The Opportunity

The Senior Officer-Laboratory Technology will work to ensure the implementation of the 24/7 laboratory services at the SCI PHCs based on the Package of Minimum Essential Services- of the Ministry of Health and the quality standards of Save the Children International. She/he will deliver services by collecting samples, performing tests, documenting, and communicating results plus operating and maintaining laboratory equipment. He/she will set up and support the staff to deliver investigative services at the Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), Maternity unit, Emergency Room (ER), etc. as per the leadership of the PHCs Manager. The incumbent will prepare a plan to ensure an integration plan by providing testing facilities for programme participants of EIE, CP, and other sectors where applicable. S/he will make plans and keep the team ready to provide diagnostic support during any outbreak. This position will be directly providing direct patient investigative care and quality reporting of outcomes.

Qualifications and experience

  • 3 years experience in a relevant field, preferably in primary and emergency healthcare.
  • Experience in settling up laboratory services in a PHC/hospital set up of health programmes in humanitarian settings, including experience in setting up and establishing lab services in large-scale emergency health programmes will be an additional advantage.
  • Good experience working in hardship environments.
  • Ability to reflect on and learn from personal and programme performance and act upon lessons learnt.
  • Ability to work within a tight timeframe, and Excellent interpersonal skills,
  • Motivation to work in the field areas. 
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, i.e.: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • Post-Graduation from BUHS (Bangladesh University of Health Sciences), MS in Applied Laboratory Sciences is preferred.
