SMC today is a major contributor to the Bangladesh national health and family planning program. It markets a full range of Family Planning products, Oral Rehydration Salt, and has diversified into nutrition, reproductive health, and female hygiene. In 2018, SMC was considered the second largest contraceptive social marketing program globally. The Company is looking to recruit a bright, talented, innovative, and hard-working individual for the following contractual position under the USAID supported Marketing Innovations for Sustainable Health Development (MISHD) project.

Position Title : Communication Specialist (Contractual)

Job Location: Head Office, SMC Tower, Banani, Dhaka


The communication specialist should have basic responsibility of handling public relations and maintaining a bridge between SMC and its stakeholders; promoting SMC with adequate information outputs, SMC’s products and services and disseminating all messages in a consistent and targeted manner. S/he will be a strategic thinker with an in-depth understanding of SMC’s corporate and program activities, willing to work under pressure and meet deadlines. The incumbent will have an excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle multitask and adapt to SMC’s rich corporate culture. The incumbent will manage the internal and external communication of SMC and represent the company at the national and international levels. The incumbent will develop and implement a communication strategy that includes print, electronic and social media content including BCC/communication materials. S/he must be able to manage internal communications (memos, newsletters etc.) efficiently and draft content (e.g. press releases, success stories, best practices) for mass media and others. S/he will maintain liaison with media and facilitate requests for interviews, statements, organize talk shows etc. and develop contents for various platforms, like TV shows or YouTube and Facebook videos for a larger audience. S/he will build and maintain relationships with journalists and key external actors. The incumbent will work closely with GOB (DGFP/DGHS/MOHFW), donors, NGOs/INGOs to share best practices and promote program activities of SMC. High level communication skill of this position will exbibit the ability to develop and write different proposals, solicited and unsolicited to submit alone or with a consortium for expanding donor base and program activities.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Masters in any discipline preferably in communications, journalism, public relations, social science from any reputed institution.
  • Minimum 10 – 15 years’ experience as communication experts in the development field.
  • Skilled in developing proposals, communication strategies, writing success stories, best practices, case studies etc.
  • Design, develop and implement various communication campaigns, promotional events and BCC materials.
  • Ability to work in a team with a flexible mindset and willing to work under pressure for meeting tight deadlines.
  • Capable to work closely with GOB (DGFP/DGHS/MOHFW), donors, NGOs/INGOs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English and Bangla.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office application suite.
