Teacher Education Specialist

With nearly a seventeen-year history of working in Bangladesh, Sesame Workshop makes a measurable impact on the educational gains of children ages 3-8 through Sisimpur, the local Sesame Street co-production. With support from USAID, we have developed a multi-platform initiative including Television Series, Outreach Projects, Digital Interventions that reaches nearly 12 million children annually. The series focuses on important lessons for young children including literacy and math; health and hygiene; socio-emotional skills etc. Sisimpur has been designed to reach children and their caregivers with complementary messaging that reinforces children’s key developmental needs. Through partnerships with leading NGOs and government organizations, Sesame Workshop Bangladesh expands its reach to children, teachers, and caregivers with innovative programs, including providing educational materials and training to government-run primary schools and community-based organizations.
About the Position
The Teacher Education Specialist is a key position to an anticipated USAID funded 03-year project on Promoting Education for Early Learners to improve learning outcomes of the marginalized children by creating an enabling environment for children in marginalized groups. This project will reach children from marginalized communities, girls, and special needs children through mass-media initiatives and through direct services with government primary schools. The Teacher Education Specialist will be responsible for providing technical leadership to lead the school intervention and teacher professional development in line with the ongoing teacher professional development activities of public primary schools. The specialist will be responsible for designing the teacher training program and building capacity of technical team members of the project. The specialist will work in close contact with the Chief of Party and the Gender and Inclusive Education Advisor.

Job Responsibilities:
- Closely work with Chief of Party, Gender and Inclusion Advisor, Program Team and with the Content and Creative team to meet the training need of the project
- Develop teachers training plan and implementation strategy for the project
- Closely work with government departments to ensure approval on training design and implementation plan
- Develop technical capacity of the project staff and project schoolteachers for field-based implementation
- Develop training modules and required training resources for the teachers training and staff professional development
- Review the videos and print materials and assess appropriateness for them to use in the training sessions
- Conduct sessions in the training of teachers under project school and project staff
- Be present in the training and workshops of the project and provide technical advisory in the field-based training events
- Advise on the parenting session modules on gender and inclusion issues
- Visit project sites to monitor progress of the projects from training point of view
- Be the Training and Capacity Development focal point of Sesame Workshop Bangladesh and represent organizations to government organizations and USAID
- Perform other jobs as per need of organization as advised by the supervisor
Qualifications and Experiences:
- An advanced university degree (Masters) from an accredited university in Education (preferably primary and early childhood teacher education) or social science with a minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant professional experience.
- Expertise in education, especially in preprimary and primary teachers’ professional development in the context of formal primary education.
- Demonstrated management, coordination, teamwork, and planning skills, with proven ability to function effectively with multiple counterparts in the public and NGO sectors.
- Expertise in early grade education and school readiness.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Bangla and English are required.
Terms and benefits:
This is a contractual position and appointment will be made on Contractual Services Agreement initially for one year with a possibility of extension. The position offers an attractive remuneration package based on qualification and experiences with other facilities according to the organization policy including festival bonus.
