Three-Day Training on Climate Change: Risks, Impacts, Adaptation, and Mitigation in Urban Settings.

Background:

Social and Economic Enhancement Programme (SEEP) is a private voluntary development organization with a vision to create a society for children which is free of exploitation, discrimination and violence and supports growth to their highest potential. Established in 1985 with its head office in Dhaka, it is mandated to protect the children.

Programme Background:

SEEP has been working in the urban context for many years with the most vulnerable and marginalized groups to improve their economic and social status by addressing the underlying issues/causes of extreme poverty. Currently, SEEP is implementing a five years’ long (2023 to 2027) livelihood graduation programme in the Dhaka North City Corporation titled: “Urban Green Graduation Programme (UGGP)”. The programme's overall goal is to Urban Extreme Poor households can sustainably meet their basic needs and have improved coping strategies through strengthened livelihoods which place value on the natural environment. This programme already been implementing with technical and financial support from Concern Worldwide and Irish Aid.

SEEP is inviting a brief narrative and financial proposal (3 -5 pages max) from the qualified and committed Individual Trainer/training providing organization/ development professionals 3 days training on “Climate Change: Risks, Impacts and Adaptation, Mitigation etc. in Urban Settings.” for the programme staff.

Climate change is increasingly affecting urban areas with growing risks such as heatwaves, flooding, air pollution, and infrastructure vulnerability. Urban centers must not only reduce emissions but also build resilience to these impacts. As urban populations grow, the importance of understanding and responding to climate change in cities becomes critical. This training aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of urban stakeholders to plan and implement climate adaptation and mitigation strategies effectively.

*Objectives of the Training:

The primary objectives of the training are:

  • To increase awareness and understanding of climate change risks and impacts specific to urban context.
  • To build knowledge on climate adaptation and mitigation strategies applicable in urban planning and management.
  • To share tools, best practices, and case studies on integrating climate action into urban development.
  • To enhance institutional and individual capacities for climate-resilient urban Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive training schedule for the 25-27 staff and deliver this training to Graduation Mentor, Supervisor, Monitoring officer, Psychosocial councilor and Fund-raising officer. The training sessions should be interactive, participatory, and including demonstrations in the training.
  • Include relevant case studies and urban-specific examples from national and international contexts.
  • Conduct pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge gained.
  • Prepare and submit a comprehensive training report including evaluation results and recommendations.
  • Provide Certification after completion of the training.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and support to participants during the training, including climate related peer learning and knowledge sharing.

Training Content (Indicative Topics)

Day 1: Understanding Climate Change in Urban Contexts

  • Introduction to climate change: science, causes, and global trends
  • Urban vulnerability and exposure to climate risks
  • Socio-economic and environmental impacts of climate change in cities
  • Climate change and public health in urban settings

Day 2: Urban Adaptation and Resilience Building

  • Urban adaptation concepts and strategies
  • Nature-based solutions and green infrastructure
  • Climate-resilient urban planning and design
  • Case studies on urban adaptation projects

Day 3: Urban Mitigation and Policy Integration

  • Urban greenhouse gas emissions and reduction strategies
  • Sustainable transport, energy efficiency, and waste management
  • Integrating climate change into urban governance and policy
  • Financing mechanisms and donor opportunities for climate actions

Timeframe and Location

  • Duration: 3 consecutive days
  • Tentative Date: within 15th to 30thOctober 2025.
  • Location: Under DNCC area of Dhaka City.

 Required Qualifications (for Trainers/Service Provider)

  • Proven expertise in climate change, especially urban adaptation and mitigation
  • Experience in adult learning and capacity building
  • Familiarity with local urban governance frameworks and climate policies
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • The trainer or training provider organization will propose only financial remuneration/fee, which should include local transportation. All other responsibilities related to the training—such as venue rental, provision of snacks (morning and afternoon), lunch, and all training materials including IT equipment (e.g., projector, sound system, etc.) will be managed by SEEP."
  • The training must be completed by October 2025. A comprehensive report should be submitted within five working days after the training concludes. The final payment will be made upon receipt of this report
  •  The training venue will be located within the areas under Dhaka North City Corporation.
  • The trainer/facilitator team should be formed with a strong focus on gender expertise and sensitivity.
  • Payment Modality: SEEP will enter into an agreement with the selected trainer or organization, and payments will be made as per the terms outlined in the agreement.
  • Note: SEEP will deduct the VAT and Tax as per government policy.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • A recognized degree in Climate/Environment/ DRR related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 05 years of experience in delivering facilitation skill development training programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of facilitation support principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Minimum of 05 years of experience in delivering facilitation skill development training programs.

  • Strong facilitation and training skills with the ability to engage diverse groups of participants.
  • Experience in the design of interactive and experiential learning activities.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian and development sectors in Bangladesh, including the facilitation support needs of different target groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and Bengali (both written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders from various sectors and cultural backgrounds.
  • Prior experience in conducting training evaluations and producing high-quality training reports.
