Summary of the Role’s Main Purpose
To provide quality service to customers & suppliers for sourcing, ordering and on time shipment. |
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Customer
- Work closely with UK Trading team. Build confidence with the UK Trading team to drive future potential
- Proactively present new products and new concepts to UK, and therefore increasing their use of Direct Sourcing.
Operational
- Source and develop new product ranges as per design briefs
- Identify a best in class supply base in the region, offering good quality products at fair prices
- Establish and Monitor KPIs
- Monitor the day to day operation including quote sheets, sample and order follow up, on-time shipments and effectively managing the Critical Path.
- Supervise Assistant Merchandisers, ensuring your team delivers accurate information to the UK in an agreed timeframe.
- Monitor the testing of products with Product Technologists to meet audit and Company requirements.
- Follow through product artwork and packaging with the Packaging Technologist.
- Work closely with assistant merchandiser, packaging technologist, quality technologist, logistics and other offshore teams
- Communicate with all stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Report to managers on operational activities and performance.
People
- Identify appropriate suppliers and build long term working relationships
- Monitor supplier performance and make recommendations for improvements
- Motivate and train Assistant Merchandisers in order to perform tasks efficiently and effectively
- Work in line with Sainsbury’s Values
Finance
- To achieve financial targets of Sainsbury’s Asia i.e. Sales Turnover through stores where Sainsbury’s Asia products are sourced.
- Have a strong understanding of costs, and reduce unnecessary costs.

Core Areas of Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- University graduate with 3 years plus relevant working experience in an international sourcing and buying environment
- Experience to work independently with overseas buyers and to communicate confidently
- Experience of leading a team of Assistant Merchandisers
- Sound knowledge of related product category and technical requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills – written and spoken English
