Since 2009 in Bangladesh, Room to Read has been implementing education support Programs in low-income and remote communities in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka, Moulvibazar, Narail and Natore districts. Till 2023, we have supported the education of more than 0.4 million children in Primary and 7,386 girls in Secondary schools. We are proud to have worked with DPE, NCTB, NAPE, DSHE, a2i as well as national radio and TV in executing scalable and systemic initiatives to eradicate illiteracy and embed life-skills.

Social Mobilizer, Girls’ Education and Gender Equality Program (GEP); Re-advertised
(Based in Narail/Jhalakathi Office and Reports to the Program Officer, GEP)

Position Overview:

The Social Mobilizer, Girls’ Education and Gender Equality Program (GEP) is the primary point of contact for Teachers and girls in the Girls’ Education and Gender Equality Program (GEP).  The overall responsibility for this position is supporting teachers for life skill session conduction, support to organize different training, mentoring girls for enhancing their life skills.  SMs reports to Program Officer, GEP and has no direct reports. This position is based in Narail/ Jhalakathi.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support teacher to organize Room to Read’s life skills sessions with girls and support them to use such skills in their lives
  • Provide logistical support and assist teachers to ensure they are well-prepared to conduct life skills sessions smoothly
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to girls by facilitating group mentoring discussions
  • Organize group for conducting Group Mentoring Sessions
  • Plan, Organize and conduct recovery Parents workshop sessions
  • Provide need based Individual mentoring support
  • Participate in module trainings on Girls’ Education and Gender Equality Program (GEP) content and activities. These trainings will be led by the Program Officer, GEP
  • Support the PO in managing communications within schools and communities
  • Provide the necessary registers to teachers and verify data entry according to the plan
  • Participate in regular trainings and meetings with Room to Read staff, as planned
  • Monitor and keep written records of girls including school attendance, academic performance, and participation in program activities.  Work closely with the School Focal Point (main contact person at the school), Master Trainer, Teachers to regularly obtain this data as needed
  • Provide hands-on support to the existing club and help implement its activities
  • Assit PO and school authiotiy to organize different type of event in school and awareness based event in community
  • Prepare Report in monthly basis
  • Assist the Program Officer in conducting any assessments of Girls’ Education and Gender Equality Program (GEP) participants, as needed
  • Participate in various activities led by other networks
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Program Officer as needed
  • Arrange school and logistical support for any government or global visits
  • Assist the RM&E team with any surveys
  • Track and submit all program activity expenses and invoices
  • Prepare and submit PIM to PO monthly basis per month session conduction
  • Prepare WAP and share with PO
  • Assist PO for planning and distributing the relevant materials to the school when needed

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Only female candidates will be considered for this position
  • Bachelors’ in Social Science, Women & Gender Studies, Social Work, Education or other related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience and/or interest working with and or mentoring  adolescent girls
  • Good interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Desire and ability to spend a significant majority of time traveling and providing direct support to girls at the school, community, or home

Preferred:

  • Prior success working closely and building relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low overhead
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization
  • Proven track record of achieving results
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously and take initiative
  • Prior experience living and/or working in rural areas
  • Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators and government officials
  • Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of tasks as well as developing and implementing improvements in a prior position
