Main purpose of the role

The Child Protection Assistant will play an active role in strengthening child protection responses. The Child Protection Assistant will contribution to the organization and monitoring of activities within Child Friendly Spaces, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for children and adolescent to play and learn in are in place. The Child Protection Assistant will also support establishment of Child Protection Group and adolescent group/leader and strengthening prevention and response to violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect against children.

Overall Objectives (scope)

The overall objective of this role is to support the strengthening of a functioning Child protection activities. Ensure child-friendly and recreational activities for children in Child Friendly Spaces and establishment of Child Protection Group and adolescent group/leader.

Specific Responsibilities

Perform other duties, as appropriate and requested by supervisor
Position Reports to: Child Protection Officer
Position directly supervises: 
Budget responsibility: N/A

Under the guidance of the Child Protection Officer, the Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with planning and monitoring of Child Friend Spaces activities
  • Assisting and supporting adolescent life skill training and group activities
  • Building capacity for animator on structured play and psychosocial activities which providing to children in CFS
  • Providing follow-up support and mentoring to animators, children and youth, according to needs and project objectives
  • Assisting with reporting and data collection
  • Supporting organization of events and activities and helping with request for goods and quotations according to project needs
  • Any other duties as assigned by Child Protection Officer

Person Specification

Education: Bachelor degree (Social workers, Psychology, Nurse, Public health, relevant degree)
Work Experience: Experience working with NGO in Cox’s bazar is preferable

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Extensive experience working in child protection programming or relevant experiences
  • Extensive experience in building strong child protection systems and in delivering services to children in emergencies
  • Strong background and skills in facilitating trainings, coaching and mentoring others
  • Familiarity with CP minimum standard
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties
  • Enthusiasm to learn
  • Optimistic and friendly
  • Flexibility

Language Skills: 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken in Bangali and English
  • Good command in Rohingya, an asset
