Job Summary

PROTTYASHI, a social development organization has been working for the development of disadvantaged population of the country since its establishment with an aim to ensure everyone to live with dignity and prosperity. PROTTYASHI reaches the community with basic needs and supports to save lives and facilitate all the people of the community to live with equal value and priority. PROTTYASHI works for the disadvantaged portion of the population in community addressing their pressing needs following the strategies contextually viable and environmentally sustainable. PROTTYASHI has been actively supporting the refugee population in the humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar as one of the first responders since August 2017. PROTTYASHI has been vigilantly supporting these crises affected population to accomplish its promised commitment towards humanity and people in distress.

To ensure improved food security for the refugee population helping them to meet nutritional requirement in an environmentally sustainable manner, PROTTYASHI is going to implement “Promotion of Market Linkage” Activity of WFP Cox’s Bazar Resilience Programme with the technical support of Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in selected host communities of Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas. PROTTYASHI invites applications for the vacant position titled- Market Linkage Supervisor (Horticulture) for the Project and encourages the persons enthusiastic to contribute to the increased resilience of the humanitarian crisis affected host community people in Cox’s Bazar.

Reporting

Market Linkage Supervisor (Horticulture) will report to Project Coordinator. S/He has to maintain functional relationship with his/her peers, project teams and organization’s other priority teams. S/He must be able to communicate with other teams and units both program and operational of the organization. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support farmers in identifying market opportunities for horticultural products, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
  • Facilitate connections between farmers and buyers (such as wholesalers, retailers, cooperatives, and export agents).
  • Organize and facilitate buyer-seller meetings, market fairs, and trade shows to promote direct market linkages.
  • Work with farmers to help them meet market requirements, including packaging, presentation, quality standards, and delivery timelines
  • Provide guidance to farmers on improving product quality, handling, storage, and post-harvest management.
  • Assist farmers in understanding how to better negotiate pricing and sales agreements with buyers.
  • Regularly collect and analyze data on market trends, demand, prices, and buyer needs specific to the horticultural sector.
  • Share relevant market information (e.g., prices, demand, and market opportunities) with farmers to help them make informed production and marketing decisions.
  • Maintain a database of buyers, sellers, and market prices relevant to horticultural products.
  •  Monitor and track the progress of farmers’ participation in market linkages and assess the outcomes of market access interventions.
  •  Provide feedback to the Project Coordinator regarding challenges and successes faced by farmers in accessing markets.
  •  Assist with the collection of monitoring data, including the impact of market linkages on farmer incomes and the sustainability of market relationships.
  • Lead to supply of horticulture products at Fresh Food Corners of Camps
  • Provide on-the-ground guidance to ensure smooth implementation of market linkage strategies and respond to any challenges faced by farmers
  • Coordinate with other project staff to integrate market linkages with broader agricultural support activities.
  • Build relationships with local, regional, and national buyers, retailers, and cooperatives to expand market opportunities for farmers.
  •  Network with local agricultural organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for horticultural market linkages.
  • Maintain accurate records of market linkages, buyer-seller agreements, training activities, and outcomes.
  •  Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports on market linkage activities, challenges faced, and achievements.

Required Educational Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, , or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural market linkages, horticulture value chains, or rural development, preferably in the horticultural sector.

Technical Skills

  • Professional writing and speaking capacity in English and Bangla, i.e. preparing monitoring report, field visit report, event report, case study/story, press release, content writing, etc.
  • Proficient with MS office suite
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing conditions in the field
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Salary and benefits: Monthly Gross Salary will be 34,991 BDT with contributory provident fund 1,676 BDT, monthly bonus 3,333 BDT and regular traveling and communication bill.
