Job Summary
PROTTYASHI, a social development organization has been working for the development of disadvantaged population of the country since its establishment with an aim to ensure everyone to live with dignity and prosperity. PROTTYASHI reaches the community with basic needs and supports to save lives and facilitate all the people of the community to live with equal value and priority. PROTTYASHI works for the disadvantaged portion of the population in community addressing their pressing needs following the strategies contextually viable and environmentally sustainable. PROTTYASHI has been actively supporting the refugee population in the humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar as one of the first responders since August 2017 along with the affected host and local communities in Cox’s Bazar. PROTTYASHI has been vigilantly supporting these crises affected population to accomplish its promised commitment towards humanity and people living in distress.
To ensure improved food security and livelihood for the affected host and local communities of Cox’s Bazar helping them meet nutritional requirement in an environmentally sustainable manner, PROTTYASHI is going to implement “Livelihood” Activity of WFP Cox’s Bazar Resilience Programme in Ramu Upazila/Sub-district. PROTTYASHI invites applications for the vacant position titled- Business Development Officer for the Project and encourages the persons enthusiastic to contribute to the increased resilience of the humanitarian crisis affected host and local communities in Bangladesh. This position will be responsible for ensuring business development of the intended beneficiaries along with promoting market linkage for their business products.
Reporting
Business Development Officer will report to Project Coordinator of PROTTYASHI. S/He has to maintain functional relationship with his/her peers, project teams and organization’s other priority teams. S/He must be able to communicate with other teams and units both program and operational of the organization
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate linkages between farmers, local markets, and larger supply chains to enhance the sale of agricultural products.
- Engage with wholesalers, retailers, and processors to explore potential partnerships that can benefit program participants.
- Support training to the farmers on post-harvest management and value chain development to ensure maximum profitability and competitiveness of local products.
- Lead efforts to optimize the agricultural value chain, focusing on post-harvest handling, storage, transportation, and packaging.
- Provide strategic advice on value addition techniques for agricultural products, such as processing raw produce to increase market value.
- Work with beneficiaries to identify viable off-farm income-generating activities (e.g., handstitching, box/book binding).
- Guide participants on aligning their product offerings with local market demands and on improving product quality.
- Provide mentorship to the Self Help Groups (SHGs) established within the project, helping them to grow their small businesses and access financial services.
- Assist in developing and refining business plans for small enterprises, incorporating aspects such as product pricing, market analysis, and cost forecasting.
- Assist beneficiaries in negotiating better terms with buyers and suppliers.
- Track the performance of business development initiatives, assessing the success of market linkages and income-generating activities.
- Prepare regular progress reports to document outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned

Required Educational Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Agrobusiness or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in business development, market linkage facilitation, or a similar role.
- Experience in agricultural value chain development and/or post-harvest management.
- Strong understanding of local market dynamics, especially in agricultural products.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Technical Skills
- Professional writing and speaking capacity in English and Bangla
- Proficient with MS office suite
- Able to take decision in a timely manner, priorities and multi-task work seamlessly
Salary and benefits: Monthly Gross Salary will be 56,753 BDT with contributory provident fund 2830 BDT, monthly bonus 5417 BDT and regular traveling and communication bill.
