Job Summary

Prottyashi, A social development organization has been working for the development of disadvantaged population of the country since its establishment and currently is going to implement a project on making nutritious and healthy diets available and accessible for the people of Cox’s Bazar City through enabling inclusive and supporting food systems in partnership with Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation. Prottyashi invites applications for the vacant position titled- Project Coordinator for “Inclusive cities for nutrition (IC4N)” Project.

Reporting

Project Coordinator will report to Director (Program) of Prottyashi. S/He has to maintain functional relationship with his/her peers, project teams and organization’s other priority teams. S/He must be able to communicate with other teams and units both program and operational of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management and Implementation

  • Responsible to oversee all project activities in Cox’s Bazar City and be the main contact point for the project, government and other stakeholders.
  • Ensuring programme management and financial management functioning collaboratively and in compliance with accepted standards.
  • Ensure timely implementation of the project activities as defined by the work plan.
  • Responsible for overseeing the development and execution of project deliverables, lead project planning, and mentoring, budgeting, action plans and monitoring processes etc.
  • Promote the awareness building of CBM and project stakeholders on the 2nd Nutrition Plan of Action and relevant policy and strategy documents through organizing workshops/meetings.
  • Facilitate Cox’s Bazar Municipality (CBM) to develop strategy and establish/form knowledge sharing process with relevant food system stakeholders.
  • Facilitate CBM for organizing consultations on food systems and nutrition related issues with existing committees and round table with civil society and local government representatives.
  • Organize training on information and data collection, monitoring and reporting to the stakeholders like Social development officer, medical officer, admin/logistic officer, engineering department, councilors, students/youths/committee members from slums to build awareness among them and sort challenging issues to resolve
  • Formation/reformation of slum improvement as well as facilitate capacity building training for these committees to ensure services for the slum dwellers.
  • Organize workshop ensuring participation of the officials of Cox’s Bazar Municipality and slum improvement committees (SIC) for mutual sharing and finding out effective solutions of the problems.
  • Organize Advocacy meeting among women group and SIC and Municipality (Social Development Officer, Ward Councilors) to plan and implement activity on behavior change related to food and nutrition.
  • Meeting and orientation with women group (on-job coaching on anthropometric (stanting, wasting) measurement.
  • Support CBM to develop SOP/Guidelines on hygiene standards related to food transportation, processing, preservation, and distribution assessing needs and constraints.
  • Conduct orientation of the concerned CBM staff and food value chain actors on SOP/guidelines, country's food safety system act, authority, rules, and standards through conducting workshops.
  • Facilitate CBM to promote market actors practicing the SOPs/Guidelines that IC4N developed based on the PAHO/WHO recommended five keys to safe and healthy food (keep clean, keep food at safe temperatures, and use safe water and raw materials) during food transportation, processing, preservation, and distribution through organizing workshops.
  • Implement awareness-raising sessions/trainings for market actors on food safety, quality, and hygiene practices and food waste in collaboration with BIOs and relevant government departments.
  • Promote diversified and integrated homestead gardening (DIHG) following advanced, climate-smart, innovative technologies such as vertical, multi-layer, sack, and pit.
  • Conduct assessment with market actors and producers in urban and peri-urban area (consider supply-chain problem, improve technologies, required training etc.)
  • Arrange workshop with relevant Private and Public Service Providers
  • Conduct Round table discussion workshop with supply chain actors to find out gaps, opportunities, way forward, etc. in food system in CBM.
  • Conduct assessment of requirement of various communication materials considering different target groups. (Themes, types etc.) 
  • Mapping of existing communication materials developed by various actors (govt., non-govt.) and negotiation with relevant actors for further multiplication and dissemination.
  • Assist the project team and other stakeholders define, communicate and drive the strategic vision and goal of the programme
  • Troubleshoot project problems, launch initiatives to reduce operational costs and defects, identify and implement creative solution for smooth project management
  • Supervise all the other project staffs including community mobilizers through maintaining regular communication with the project staffs and conducting regular field visit.
  • Provide support and monitor the implementation of project activities according to the workplan and scheduled timeline.

Coordination

  • Maintain liaison with the funding partners and head office of the Prottyashi for successful implementation of the project activities.
  • Maintain good relation and understanding with the Cox’s Bazar Municipality (CBM) to ease the implementation processes of the interventions.
  • Linkage building between producers, market actors with Private and Public service sectors (Agriculture, livestocks-poultry, goat rearing, fisheries)
  • Facilitate dialogue between cities including city of Zurich and city of Mbeya for knowledge sharing and learning 
  • Maintain coordination with the relevant sector to ensure timely sectoral reporting, progress sharing and strategy setting.
  • Planning, initiating and reviewing external communication to promote project activities on various platforms.
  • Attend sectoral meeting at the camp level and at Cox’s Bazar level and represent organization with the organization’s accomplishments.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare weekly/monthly progress report with the cooperation of other project staffs and submit to the Director (Program) of Prottyashi.
  • Assist Finance and Admin Officer to prepare monthly financial report through matching activities implemented.
  • Prepare document of all events, program learning, process, and impacts of project should be sent to the central program team.
  • Nurturing relationship with the press to mobilize it as and designing content for proactive media campaign as well as for publishing in local and national media.
  • Collect field level evidence of project activities through photographs and send it to the central monitoring team of Prottyashi.

Required Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in Nutrition and Food Science/Food Engineering &Technology/ Food Technology and Nutrition Science/Agriculture & Food Science
  • Intensive relevant experience with education in any discipline are also encouraged to apply.
  • At least 05 years of professional experience in national or international organizations in implementing similar projects.
  • Should have 3 years of experience on managing, coordinating and implementing field level activities on nutrition and food system strengthening.
  • Should have sound knowledge on Food and Nutrition Security, Urban Food Systems, Food System Governance, Multi-Sectorial Approach, Consumer Behavior etc.

Technical Skills

  • Skill of photography
  • Must have professional writing and speaking capacity in English and Bangla, i.e. monitoring report, field visit report, event report, case study/story, press release, content writing, etc.
  • Proficient with MS office suite
  • Able to take decision in a timely manner, priorities and multi-task work seamlessly

Salary and benefits:  Per month Gross Salary BDT 89,130 + PF contribution by project BDT 5,024 + Bonus BDT 7,846 = BDT 102,000
