Overview

Participatory Research & Action Network- PRAAN is a non-profit, non-government Public Interest organization searching for development alternatives to strengthen people’s initiative by promoting human rights, economic rights, governance, trade justice, and sustainable livelihood. The organization has been carrying out several Agriculture, Climate Adaptation, Fiscal and Participatory Governance, Tax Justice, Human rights, Women empowerment, Right to Food related research and development project supported by GoB and the National, International Organization. At the same time, the organization has a very good reputation in the campaign, advocacy, and research arena at the National and Regional levels.

Pursuant to its mission, PRAAN is seeking experienced and talented professionals for its Campaign on Right to Food & Nutrition.

Job Title : Media & Communication Officer
Team/ Project : Campaign on Right to Food & Nutrition
Location : Dhaka-based with frequent field visit (at least 30% of her/his total time).
Contract length : 02 Years (with potential to renew for at least 3 years)
Reports to : Advocacy & Campaign Coordinator
Key contacts :
Communication and coordination with Chief Executive and Programme Manager of PRAAN, Close communication with mainstream Media houses & personnel both local & Global, Agriculture & Food related experts, and Members of KHANI Bangladesh.

Role Purpose:        

The Right to Food and Nutrition Campaign is a two-year nationwide advocacy project led by the Participatory Research & Action Network (PRAAN) and implemented by the Food Security Network (Khani Bangladesh). The campaign aims to ensure everyone has the Right to adequate Food and Nutrition.

The Media & Communication Officer will execute media and communication strategies to support the campaign. Responsibilities include managing media relations, social media platforms, and high-level editorial content such as articles, features, news stories, and blogs. The role requires political terrain analysis for developing advocacy plans, strategies, and tactics. This officer will lead media efforts to support programmatic, policy, and campaign priorities, building awareness and support for the campaign both locally and nationally. Additionally, the officer will create content for external communications (brochures, position statements, editorials, web articles) and train partners and members of Khani Bangladesh on effective advocacy and media tools, and brief government officials, journalists, and campaigners on key issues.

Scope of the Role:

1. Media Relations

  • Develop a media outreach plan to identify and build relations with a network of media, maintaining these relations to increase the Right to Food & Nutrition campaign’s profile in mass-media.
  • Produce media Build and maintain relationships with relevant journalists, broadcasters, and commentators both locally and nationally.
  • Pitch stories to journalists, media houses and organize press briefings as directed.
  • Develop media announcements, briefs, kits, and timely press releases, building internal capacity to work with media effectively.
  • Provide professional advice and support to colleagues and partner organizations involved in media relations work, including crisis communications and internal media capacity building.

2. Social Media

  • Develop and implement a Social Media Strategy aligned with the organizational communications strategy; and facilitate targeted social media campaigns for Khani Bangladesh’s Campaign, events, and signature actions.
  • Manage and develop innovative and cutting-edge social media content and campaigns, growing the audience on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other relevant existing and emerging platforms.
  • Frequently update Khani Bangladesh's social media outlets (Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc.) and ensure dissemination of information about programs on a weekly basis.

3. Communications

  • Provide support and lead in developing communications content for external and internal use.
  • Ensure the development of content of the project activity and the dissemination of internal and external periodic newsletters with mailing lists management.
  • Develop communications products such as PowerPoints, fact sheets, info graphics, e-newsletters, reports, banners, leaflets, posters, or any other relevant material.
  • Actively work to expand audience engagement and viewership, and manage mailing lists.
  • Prepare news, blog posts, press releases, event reports, and other promotional content for the website and social media.
  • Work closely with program teams to plan, organize, and undertake issue-based or program/sector- specific advocacy events, conferences, workshops, etc.

 4. Documentation and Reporting

  • Creation of impactful high-quality written content both in English and Bengali.
  • Document and publish campaign learning and case studies.
  • Development of visual content for articles, stories, photos, messaging, fact sheets and multimedia both for internal and external audiences.
  • Submit regular reports on communication activities.
  • Document and publish articles, briefing notes, media publications, and case studies for campaigns.
  • Maintain contact with key Government Officials, ministries, and parliamentarians for information and integrate this into national media and advocacy work.

5. Capacity Building

  • Support staff and partners on learning media and communication best practices.
  • Design and produce training materials on media and communication for marketing the campaign.
  • Support program partners in media and communications-related capacity building, ensuring integration within programs.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with media and civil society groups to feed into advocacy work.

 6.Accountability:

  • Holds self accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, and achieving objectives while role modeling Khani Bangladesh's values.
  • Holds the team and partners accountable for delivering on their responsibilities, allowing them the freedom to deliver in the best way they see fit, providing necessary development to improve performance, and applying appropriate consequences when results are not achieved.

The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

Requirement of the Role:

Academic: Completed university degree (post-graduate preferably in Social or relevant discipline.

Experience: At least 2-3 years’ work experience with at least two (2) years spent in a similar role is essential; Minimum of three (2) years demonstrable skills and experience in direct media & communication work in this field highly desirable.

Skill:

  • Demonstrable ability to work autonomously while maintaining strategic foresight, alongside the capability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Ability to distill complex ideas into clear, simple language, ensuring comprehensibility across diverse audiences.
  • Strong creative thinking abilities, essential for developing, designing, and creating novel ideas, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English is imperative.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends, tactics, and technologies in digital influencing, with the capability to integrate online and offline media strategies.
  • Excellent skills in using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, video editing software, and managing Blogspot sites.
  • Proven experience in writing press releases, developing case studies, and effectively engaging with media outlets, including conducting interviews.

We offer:

Monthly Salary: 44,000- 46,890.00 taka

Other benefits: 02 Festival allowances, Provident Fund, 5% yearly increment, Mobile ceiling and other admissible benefits as per organizational policy.
