Overview

Participatory Research & Action Network- PRAAN is a non-profit, non-government Public Interest organization searching for development alternatives to strengthen people’s initiative by promoting human rights, economic rights, governance, trade justice, and sustainable livelihood. The organization has been carrying out several Agriculture, Climate Adaptation, Fiscal and Participatory Governance, Tax Justice, Human rights, Women empowerment, Right to Food related research and development project supported by GoB and the National, International Organization. At the same time, the organization has a very good reputation in the campaign, advocacy, and research arena at the National and Regional levels.

Pursuant to its mission, PRAAN is seeking experienced and talented professionals for its Campaign on Right to Food & Nutrition.

Job Title : Advocacy & Campaign Coordinator
Team/ Project : Campaign on Right to Food & Nutrition
Location : Dhaka-based with frequent field visit (at least 30% of her/his total time).
Contract length : 02 Years (with potential to renew for at least 3 years)
Reports to : Chief Executive/ Project Lead
Key contacts : Close communication and coordination with Chief Executive and Programme Manager of PRAAN, Communicate with KHANI Bangladesh members, Communicate with donor, Procurement, Communication, People & Culture, and Finance.

Role Purpose         

The Right to Food and Nutrition Campaign is a two-year nationwide advocacy project aimed at ensuring that all people have the Right to adequate food and nutrition. The campaign is coordinated by the Participatory Research & Action Network (PRAAN) and implemented by the Food Security Network (KHANI Bangladesh) and its member organizations. The Advocacy Coordinator will lead the advocacy component, collaborating with multiple stakeholders and providing capacity support to civil society organizations.

The Advocacy Coordinator will lead the Right to Food and Nutrition Campaign. This role involves responsibilities to empower local civil society organizations (CSOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) to voice the needs of marginalized communities in ensuring their food security and influence policymakers to enact comprehensive Right to Food legislation in Bangladesh. The Coordinator will work with CSOs and CBOs to identify capacity gaps and needs, enabling them to advocate effectively for policy changes. This includes training in data collection, effective communication with policymakers, media engagement, and advocacy techniques. The project will also conduct studies on food governance to understand power dynamics in food and nutrition decision-making, aiming to influence these for better funding, programming, and legislation.

The Advocacy & Campaign Coordinator will ensure meaningful engagement with stakeholders, facilitating the involvement of affected communities in advocacy efforts. By mobilizing support and conducting widespread campaigns, the goal is to sensitize policymakers and drive the adoption of a legal framework ensuring the right to food in Bangladesh.

Scope of the Role

1. Support to create evidence and advocacy strategic plan.

  • Support to develop strategic advocacy plan as well as Project Implementation plan of Campaign on Right to Food & Nutrition Project.
  • Mapping potential actor who are working for the Right to Food & Nutrition.
  • Support to identify and use different communication channels to share evidence-based findings from National to Global stakeholders related to the Right to Food & Nutation.
  • Contribute and Participate in the International Mechanism/ reporting/ review process related to the Right to Food & Nutation, Future Food Systems, JUST transition, Agrarian rights and Climate Change etc.

2. Implement advocacy strategy through KHANI Network

  • Support to organize meetings, workshops, and conferences at Local, National and International level .
  • Support to work for KHANI Bangladesh’s Campaign at local and national level operational.
  • Build and maintain strong networks and working relations with Parliamentarians, Government officials, National Human Rights Commission, FAO Bangladesh Country office, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop relevant material/ policy paper for campaigning and advocacy purposes.

3. Capacity Development for the members of Civil Society

  • Support capacity development of the members of KHANI Bangladesh on Campaign, Lobby and Advocacy; and provide support to the members of the Network by preparing events guideline, making PPT, Campaign brief and talking points, keynote paper, etc.
  • Strengthen Civil Society Networks and coalition building for advocacy activities.
  • Organize and facilitate capacity-building-related interventions for the members of the Civil Society.
  • Provide logistical and other support to KHANI members by preparing events guideline, making PPT, Campaign brief and RtFN related information.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Document best practices related to Food & Nutrition, Agrarian Right, and Climate Change at community level.
  • Prepare Activity reports, various periodic and monitoring reports as per requirement of the Donor and NGOAB.
  • Facilitate and participate in lesson learnt documentation process.
  • Prepare evidence-based document for conducting policy advocacy issue.

 5. Accountability:

  • Holds self-accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and role modelling PRAAN values.
  • Holds the team and partners accountable to deliver on their responsibilities - giving them the freedom to deliver in the best way they see fit, providing the necessary development to improve performance and applying appropriate consequences when results are not achieved.
  • Ensure PRAAN’s resources are managed with the highest level of quality stewardship, including implementing and monitoring finance and administration systems and procedures as they apply to the field office and developing a system of checks and balances to ensure timely, appropriate finance and administration procedures.

6. Other tasks:

  • Develop ToR as per need of the project activities.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and learning culture in the Office.
  • Actively work towards continuing personal learning and development.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisor.
  • Support Media & Communication Officer by providing best stories, cases, and issues in producing content for relevant social media as well as other documentation where possible.

The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

Requirement of the Role

Academic: Completed university degree (post-graduate preferably in Social or relevant discipline).

Experience: At least 3-4 years’ project management experience, preferably in legislative advocacy in the Right to Food & Nutrition, Agrarian and Environmental Rights in National level.

Skill:                

  • Excellent experience of rapport building, networking, liaison and relationship building for advocacy.
  • Reporting skills as per reporting template and considering result framework of the Campaign on Right to food & Nutrition project
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in Bangla and English.
  • Experience in advocacy and campaign development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation is essential
  • Proven ability to work creatively, innovatively, and effectively with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to manage a complex and varied work load and to work under pressure - Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

We Offer

Monthly Salary: 70,000- 75,350.00 taka

Other benefits: 02 Festival allowances, Provident Fund, 5% yearly increment, Mobile ceiling and other admissible benefits as per organizational policy.
