Capacity Building Specialist- Girls Advocacy Alliance Project
(based at the Country Office in Dhaka)

All over the world girls are at risk because of their young age and their gender. They are at risk of being denied the opportunity to access a secondary education, to gain the skills and training they need to work and to exercise control over their sexual and reproductive health. They are at risk of being married before the age of 18. They are at risk of violence and harassment from men and boys in every space they occupy, including their home, their school, their refugee camp and their city.

Girls Advocacy Alliance–(GAA) is a five year multi- country project funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented through an alliance of Plan International Netherlands, Terre des Hommes Netherlands and Defence for Children International – ECPAT International. The project aims to end gender-based violence (GBV) and promote equal economic rights and opportunities for girls and young women in 10 countries spread across Africa and Asia. In Bangladesh, GAA is jointly implemented by Plan International Bangladesh and Terre des Hommes Netherlands as an Alliance Partnership Team (APT) under the leadership of Plan’s Child Rights and Protection programme. The project envisions that by 2030 girls and young women in Bangladesh will have freedom of choice through reduction in GBV, especially child marriage and child trafficking, and increase in enabling and safe working environments through reduced sexual harassment and unequal pay in the work place. The project partners with a range of civil society organizations (CSOs) and networks to bring about the desired changes in norms, laws, policies and practices to achieve GAA objectives.
