Child Protection Specialist

(based at the Barisal Divisional Office)

All over the world girls are at risk because of their young age and their gender. They are at risk of being denied the opportunity to access a secondary education, to gain the skills and training they need to work and to exercise control over their sexual and reproductive health. They are at risk of being married before the age of 18. They are at risk of violence and harassment from men and boys in every space they occupy, including their home, their school, their refugee camp and their city.

Our organization is transforming itself to meet the enormous challenge everywhere that we work. We need bold, forward-thinking and innovative individuals in our team, driving change and delivering results that will allow us to reach our target of 100 million girls. With this backdrop, Plan International Bangladesh (PIB) has set the vision for 2030 as, ‘We will partner to empower girls and young women, to be heard, to live without fear of violence and to achieve their rights’. This change will enable us to deliver successfully on our global ambitions and significantly impact children’s rights and gender equality in Bangladesh.

The role

The CEMB Project supports the Government of Bangladesh’s commitment from the 2014 Global Girls’ Summit to: create a National Plan of Action to eliminate Child Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) below 15; reduce by a third marriages below 18 years by 2021; and end all CEFM by 2041. It will promote the progressive provisions of the Child Marriage Restraint Act (CMRA) 2017 and envisions close cooperation with the Ministry of Women & Children Affair, Ministry of Education, a2i and other relevant stakeholders to contribute in implementation of NPA for Adolescent Health strategy in Bangladesh. The initiative is also fully aligned with the goals set by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) governments through the regional South Asia Initiative to End Violence against Children (SAIEVAC).

The project duration has started from June 2018 and is working with in-school adolescent girls and boys, out-of-school (OOS) adolescent girls and boys and married girls, as well as adolescent girls’ families and communities targeting 6,000 OOS girls, 10,000 OOS boys, 90,021 in-school girls and 94,449 in-school boys across Bhola and Jhalokati. CEMB aims to promote and protect girls' human rights in Bangladesh by reducing Child Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) for vulnerable girls in the high prevalence populations of Bhola and Jhalokati through a comprehensive approach that seeks to engage girls, mobilize community stakeholders, strengthen existing child protection mechanisms and create an enabling and protective environment.

Child Protection Specialist, being a part of CEMB project Team, will contribute to these goals.
