Position: Head of Retail

Job Purpose

As Head of Retail, you are responsible for overall success of all the Branches throughout the country, which includes meeting your financial and service targets. You are responsible for maintaining standards – including all banking norms, practices and procedures, maximising margin potential and identifying and implementing new products and service offers, whilst maintaining the highest level of services.


To ensure success, you should have a professional demeanor, a cool head, and extensive knowledge of banking and financial procedures. Ultimately, a top-class retail banker should be able to assist customers with their banking needs, cross-sell financial products, all while maintaining the integrity of the institution.

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute and manage retail strategy and tactical business plan, taking into account the market opportunity/growth potential, competitor activity, and risk taking appetite
  • Agree target market selection and customer propositions within the strategy
  • Devise and agree product and sales mix
  • Define measurable business growth objectives, management processes and measures
  • Define and develop a service-based sales culture; and assess market conditions, recommend, implement and monitor retail banking strategy in order to gain and sustain the bank’s competitive edge and results
  • Review control the branches operating costs within the budget in order to maintain cost control
  • Identify customer needs, initiate action, and follow up in order to meet customer expectations
  • Identify training needs, recommend, guide, rotate, monitor and follow up in order to improve staff competencies
  • Direct and follow up with BM’s and Cluster Heads on implementing of audit comments in order to avoid repeated criticism and ensure bringing new business
  • Guide and direct Cluster Heads to monitor/ control and follow up classified accounts in order to avoid new NPA’s and improve profitability
  • Maintain your departmental KPI’s
  • Liaise with FAD/CFO to produce workable rolling forecasts and Budgets
  • Identify and implement improved service practices and procedures
  • Maintain accurate client data-base information
  • Maintain an overall 100% client satisfaction rating for all team members

Qualification and experience required:

A Master’s degree with

  • 15 - 20 Years’ Experience in banking;
  • Business Development and Customer service skills;
  • Ability to think strategically and assist in the organization and management of multi-nationality team
  • Excellent innovative, marketing, communication, interpersonal, organizing and leadership skills
  • Selling and Credit analysis skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of banking and financial procedures.
  • Experience with banking and office software.
  • Strong attention to detail.
