Oxfam in Bangladesh is looking for a qualified Consultant or a Consultancy Firm to “Consultancy on Proving Support to Videography & Develop Media Content for Inception Meeting of Empowering Women Through Civil Society Actors in Bangladesh (EWCSA) Project.” We are inviting for proposal from interested consultancy firm / individual to undertake this assignment.

Background:

Informal sector workers in Bangladesh are not recognized in terms of organized engagement, visibility, or negotiating power, and are not included by the Labor Act (2013) or face lack of implementation because of their social position. Women workers suffer significant discrimination and restrictions, such as societal and cultural attitudes and stereotypes, which constrain their movement, social status, acknowledgement, and access to services, and force them to bear the dual burden of unpaid domestic care work and wage labor. Furthermore, they are subjected to violence and abuse in both the private and public realms, as well as at work. Women are frequently consigned to informal and marginalized work, which is typically deregulated and lacks safety and fair working conditions, due to a lack of availability and accessibility to education and training. They are disproportionately employed as domestic workers, in the lowest paying roles, or are simply unrecognized due to social perceptions of their role in the home and society. Also when organizations and frameworks exist, such as trade unions or associations that symbolize the industries in which they work, they are often heavily influenced by men and fail to acknowledge gender based challenges such as accessibility, ability upgrade opportunities, child care, and sexual misconduct and abuse mitigation. Addressing the concerns necessitates a comprehensive approach that considers the numerous layers of marginalization and is led by those who are most affected. The aim of EWCSA project is to empower marginalised women working in informal and marginalised occupations in Bangladesh, to influence governance and development processes.
