Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.

Do you have a strong academic foundation in Environmental Science, Energy Studies, Sustainable Development, Economics, or a related discipline (Master ’s-level with thesis focus)?

Do you have research skills to collect, analyze, and interpret data, and assess the feasibility of renewable energy solutions?

Do you have the passion and commitment to climate justice, equity, and sustainability, aligned with Oxfam’s values?

If the answer is yes, then we would like to hear from you.

Background:

The Climate Justice and Natural Resource Rights (CJNRR) Programme of Oxfam is working towards a fair future where climate-vulnerable communities can strengthen resilience, raise their voices, and secure equal rights over natural resources.

Under its Just Energy Transition (JET) focus, Oxfam has launched a one-year project, “Accelerating Fair Transition to Renewables for Industrial Decarbonization”, supported by TARA Climate Foundation. The project aims to promote renewable energy adoption in Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector, focusing on policy advocacy, evidence generation, and practical business models for fair and sustainable energy transition.
To support this initiative, Oxfam is engaging master’s-level students (with thesis aspirations) and early-career professionals. Selected Fellows will be placed with industry partners to:

  • Explore current energy practices and reliance on fossil fuels
  • Assess readiness for renewable energy adoption
  • Identify policy gaps, investment challenges, and opportunities

Your findings will directly contribute to shaping just business models, industrial transformation, and climate justice.

Key Objectives:

Through this initiative, Fellows will:

  • Generate Evidence – Study energy use in RMG factories, focusing on fossil fuel reliance and renewable energy opportunities.
  • Engage with Industry – Work directly with factory managers, energy officers, and decision-makers to assess potential, challenges, and practices.
  • Analyze Viability – Examine the financial feasibility, ROI, and benefits (cost savings, emission reductions, efficiency gains) of renewable energy adoption.
  • Support Business Models – Contribute to designing scalable, fair, and investment-ready energy transition models for the RMG sector.
  • Collect Field Data – Document financing options, technology readiness, and institutional capacity across different factories.
  • Facilitate Stakeholder Dialogue – Participate in consultations and validation workshops with factory owners, service providers, investors, and policymakers.
  • Disseminate Findings – Prepare policy briefs, investor notes, and knowledge products to influence national and international renewable energy policies and investments.

Applicants should have:

  • Academic Background: Master’s-level students (thesis stage) or early-career professionals in thesis-based postgraduate programs. Preferred fields: Environmental Science, Energy Studies, Sustainable Development, Economics, or related disciplines.
