The role:

The Senior Programme Officer (SPO) is responsible for overseeing projects, including financial management and compliance, while ensuring effective coordination with thematic and programme management heads. The SPO will promote safe programming in collaboration with sector leads, advisors, and managers, and ensure community participation influences programme decisions. They will adopt a partnership approach and work according to feminist principles, being mindful of power dynamics. The role involves close coordination and collaboration with other projects and technical teams, including Climate Action, Food Security and Livelihood, Natural Resource Rights, Ecosystem Restoration, Just Energy Transition, and MEAL teams, to ensure integrated programme delivery.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be/have:

• A postgraduate degree in Geography, Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Water and Flood Management, Social Science, International Relations, Public Policy, or a closely related field that adds value to the job.
• At least 4 years of relevant field experience in project management, preferably in related fields.
• A good understanding of Bangladesh’s context regarding climate adaptation and mitigation, ecosystem restoration, water-related South Asian geopolitics, conflicts over common pool resources, and transformative leadership.
• Proven skills in financial and risk management.
• Relevant working experience in climate action and advocacy, including grassroots activism and advocacy, with respect for voluntarism and civic movements.
• Value alignment with environmental justice, a rights-based approach, and feminist principles, with a strong commitment to the rights of the most marginalized communities.
• Understanding and practical knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing would be advantageous for this position.

Salary & Benefits: as per Oxfam National D1 pay band, the starting annual salary for this role is BDT1,462,326.00 (13 months) with other benefits e.g., medical for self, spouse and children, contributory provident fund, gratuity, leave, life insurance, mobile allowance, and other admissible benefits as per the organizational policy. For highly competent & experienced candidates the salary can be negotiable.
