The role:

Oxfam, in partnership with Plan International, seeks to fill the role of an Environmental, Social, and Climate Resilience Expert for the anticipated EARN project. Funded by the World Bank, EARN aims to economically engage NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) youth, particularly women, in rural and semi-urban areas of Bangladesh. The project focuses on education, skills development, employment, and enterprise support, emphasizing women-centric facilities and employability enhancement.

Given Bangladesh’s vulnerability to climate change, the EARN project will address climate resilience. The Environmental, Social, and Climate Resilience Expert will integrate sustainability, social inclusivity, and climate considerations. They will create site-specific plans, engage communities, and ensure equitable distribution of project benefits. By promoting environmental sustainability and social inclusion, this role contributes to Oxfam’s vision of resilient communities.

What we are looking for:

An ideal candidate for the role will also have:

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability Climate Change, Geography, Development Studies, Social Science, or any other relevant subject from a reputable university.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven specific experience.
  • Expertise in mainstreaming Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) and preparing VLTC-specific Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
  • Proficiency in undertaking and monitoring to ensure that proposed mitigation measures align with an agreed-upon environmental and social mitigation implementation plan.
  • Ability to prepare reports (monthly, quarterly, field monitoring) on safeguard risks, including appropriate actions for all sub-projects, ensuring timely implementation.
  • Capability to lead the development and delivery of spot checks, ensuring proper implementation of safeguards policies at the grassroots level in line with guidelines.
  • Skill in integrating safeguard assessment information and completing safeguards self-screening checklists during project/program development.

Salary & Benefits: As per Oxfam National C2 pay band, starting annual salary for this role is BDT 2,104,742.00 (13 months) with other benefits e.g., medical for self, spouse and children, contributory provident fund, gratuity, leave, life insurance, mobile allowance, and other admissible benefits as per the organizational policy. For highly competent & experienced candidates the salary can be negotiable.
