CLIMATE POLICY SPECIALIST

Do you have at least 5 years of professional experience in projects preferably on climate justice, policy advocacy, and JET (Just Energy Transition)?

Do you have a Postgraduate level degree in climate science, environmental science, Anthropology, Natural Resource Management, Social science, or a subject closely related to environment and climate change?

Do you have experience in maintaining liaison with different stakeholders, donors, and government agencies to create a civic space and thus promote the JET movement and other people-centric participatory approaches?

The role:

Oxfam in Bangladesh aims to contribute to the climate justice through Thought Leadership. The primary purpose of the position is to provide specialist support to the CJNRR programme in implementing sub-thematic strategies under climate action. The position is expected to support the Thematic Head to position Oxfam as a Thought Leader in the climate spectrum. As part of the thought leadership, implementation of the CJNRRs sub-thematic strategies, and addressing the CJNRRs Country Operational Plan (COP), the position is expected to support the project development under the programme development needs of the CJNRR. Moreover, the position will coordinate a strong CSO movement against climate inequalities with Oxfam partners, affiliates, youths, women's rights organizations, Trade Unions, and other stakeholders through innovation and wider engagement.

We are looking for someone who has the ability to facilitate OiBD’s climate inequality and climate actions works at the country level. S/He will be responsible for analysing global and national level climate policies to provide necessary data, information, and insights to the CJNRR thematic head to help facilitate tracking and course-correct OiBD’s climate interventions. The specialist role will play a crucial role in advocating for the rights of workers and industry affiliate stakeholders to ensure a just transition in the industrial sector towards a low-carbon economy. This includes promoting equitable access to clean energy financing mechanism, securing jobs for vulnerable workers, and addressing policy barriers that may arise from non-inclusive climate actions. In addition to that, as part of the extent, the position is also expected find other priority intervention areas aligning climate movements and grower communities' rights.

Job type: Fixed Term, Contractual.

Salary & Benefits: as per Oxfam National C2 pay band, starting annual salary for this role is BDT21,04,742.00  (13 months) with other benefits e.g., medical for self, spouse and children, contributory provident fund, gratuity, leave, life insurance, mobile allowance, and other admissible benefits as per the organizational policy. For highly competent & experienced candidates the salary can be negotiable.
