Communications and Media Officer/Consultant

Based in Dhaka, the Communications and Media Officer/Consultant will be a member of the Orbis’s Bangladesh Country Team and provides communications and media support across Bangladesh program portfolio. S/he will work with Program/Project Managers and Director of Programs - to provide creative, editorial, and operational support for communication and media/event related activities of projects/programs.

REPORTABLE TO:  Country Director 

SUPERVISES: None

Principle Accountability:

1. Brand Communication – 20%

  • Work with Program/Project Managers and SMT to develop and deliver communications strategies for Orbis work in Bangladesh
  • Support in maintain appropriate and consistent language and terminology across all communication channels
  • Ensure Orbis International branding and promotion /visibility policies for country program and partners 
  • Liaison and work with external agencies, including graphic designers, photographers, journalists/media production companies/organizations and print specialists and ensure production, printing, and distribution 
  • Develop compelling presentations, electronic direct mailers, and other publicity and promotional materials for external stakeholders with ensuring branding compliance

2.Social Media and Website Management – 20%

  • Develop content and periodically update the Orbis’s Bangladesh Website.
  • Coordinate with the team internally for content gathering, editing, photos /images with consent and management of the Website  
  • Develop and implement social media strategy in consultation with the team and relevant stakeholders to gather and refine/creative and comply with OI policies prior to uploading.
  • Work closely with PM and review with SMT on the project specific annual requirements, allocated budget under each project, and gaps, derive estimated budget from program and core and track approvals of budget for each action
  • Measure, evaluate and share key learnings from social media management with PMs and SMT
  • Track performance on social media platforms and develop monthly updates, Quarterly reports
  • Develop monthly calendar and relevant content for social media accounts and work on the creatives/ films/video etc. 
.Program Communication – 40%
  • Proofread and edit content, namely reports, project idea/CN/proposals, fact sheets and publications
  • Develop one pager of each project with photos, case stories, lessons/innovation in consultation with PM and SMT members   
  • Support Orbis team to develop case /success stories for Devos and Comms of OI and SMT and document compelling case stories.
  • Monitor and track Orbis events at partner organizations
  • Support the develop and execution of evidence-based communication programs and campaigns
  • Support the production of training, educational and audio/visual materials for country program and office
  • Plan, develop, design, editing, listing of distribution of Bangladesh annual report in consultation with PMs and SMT members 
  • Update OI Comms on a regular meeting and share the notes to all with action and follow up issues
  • Support event management and advocacy including organizing external meetings and visit programs 
  • Facilitate training of PMs and partner focal on Orbis brand and compliance of social and all media   

4.Internal Communication – 20%

  • Contribute to and help manage Orbis’s communications calendar
  • Participate and support the organization of Orbis Bangladesh events e.g.: Partners Meeting/Special Meet etc.
  • Maintain library system for case stories, images/photographs, press cuttings, and other communication materials including appropriate consent according to OI policy and donor guidelines
  • Develop Quarterly internal newsletter for Orbis Bangladesh team

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualification:

Graduate in Journalism/ Media Communication from recognized institutions. Internship / assignment / internship in any media / business / NGO / INGOs 

Post graduate training preference:

Skills training Feature writing, op-ed and interview techniques, photography, videography and graphical design and report writing etc.

Work experiences and exposures: 

  • Minimum 2-5 years in development sector. Bangla and  English writing skills
  • Conversant on computer programs and software including abode illustrator, photoshop etc. used in communication and media world
  • high level of IT/computer operating including software skills Experience in graphic designing, photography and content development would be highly preferred.
  • Experience of event planning and management Expertise in social media and event planning management and reporting
  • Willingness to travel in the field locations in locations and places

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary negotiable. No provident fund and gratuity are applicable. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Initial contract will be for 3 months with possibility of further extension subject to availability of fund and performance.
