Terms of Reference (TOR) for conducting training on “Urban Environmental Management (Concepts, Challenges and Practices)” for the Green Graduation Programme Staff.

Location: Dhaka

Background:

Nari Maitree is a Non-Government Women Development Organization established in 1983 by a group of Women activists in order to building up the capacity of women, adolescents and children of both rural and urban for establishing their rights in the family as well as in the society.

Programme Background:  

Nari Maitree has been working in the urban context for many years with the most vulnerable and marginalized groups to improve their economic and social status by addressing the underlying issues/causes of extreme poverty. Currently, Nari Maitree is implementing a five years long (2023 to 2027) livelihood graduation programme in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) titled: “Urban Green Graduation Programme (UGGP)”. The programme's overall goal is to Urban Extreme Poor households can sustainably meet their basic needs and have improved coping strategies through strengthened livelihoods which place value on the natural environment. This programme has already been implementing with technical and financial support from Concern Worldwide and Irish Aid.

Nari Maitree is inviting brief narrative and financial proposal (3-5 pages max) from the qualified and committed Individual Trainer/training providing organization/ development professionals for the ‘Urban Environmental Management: Concepts, Challenges and Practices Training’.

The overarching goal of this training is to enhance the deep knowledge and skills of Urban Green Graduation Programme (UGGP) staff, enabling them to lead adeptly various sessions, meetings, workshops, and events associated with UGGP’s climate and environment related activities. A qualified individual trainer or training provider organization/institution is sought to conduct Urban Environmental Management: Concepts, Challenges and Practices Training’. Training for a diverse group of professionals, including Graduation Mentors, Supervisors, and Monitoring Officers in Dhaka South City.

This training will for 3 days long and its aims to empower 20-25 programme staff, equipping them with the necessary environmental issues in the urban context. This will enable them to provide effective environment relevant understanding, support to Self Helf Groups in community, engage with different stakeholders, and connect with individuals and communities involved in the program.

The overall objective of the training:

  • To increase awareness and understanding of environmental management and risks and impacts specific to urban areas for the programme staff.

The Major Responsibilities and other related conditions:

  • Provide a basic 3-day training for the 20 -25 staff for understanding on environmental issues in the urban settings.
  • Deliver the Urban Environmental Management: Concepts, Challenges and Practices to Graduation Mentor, Supervisor and Monitoring officer. The training sessions should be interactive, participatory, and including demonstration in the training.  
  • Prepare a training reports, including participant feedback, evaluation results, and recommendations for future capacity-building initiatives.
  • Provide Certification after completion of the training.
  • The trainer or training provider organization will propose only the financial remuneration/fee, which should include local transportation. All other responsibilities related to the training—such as venue rental, provision of snacks (morning and afternoon), lunch, and all training materials including IT equipment (e.g., projector, sound system, etc.)—will be managed by Nari Maitree."
  • The training must be completed by October 2025. A summary report should be submitted within five working days after the training concludes. The final payment will be made upon receipt of this report.
  •  The training venue will be located within the areas under Dhaka South City Corporation.
  • The trainer/facilitator team should be formed with a strong focus on gender expertise and sensitivity.
  • Payment Modality: Nari Maitree will enter into an agreement with the selected trainer or organization, and payments will be made as per the terms outlined in the agreement. Note: NM will deduct the vat and tax as per government policy.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A recognized degree in environmental science/social work/sociology or a related field have master's degree.
  • Minimum of 05 years of experience in delivering environment/climate relevant training programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of Urban Environmental Concepts, Challenges and Practices.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills with the ability to engage diverse groups of participants.
  • Experience in the design of interactive and experiential learning activities.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian and development sectors in Bangladesh, including the facilitation support needs of different target groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and Bengali (both written and spoken).
  • Prior experience in conducting training evaluations and producing high-quality training reports.
