Purpose

Under the direction and guidance from Project Leader the Associate Scientist - Seed System Development will help in developing and implementing Seed Systems (policy and business) with private sectors in Bangladesh under the IRRI-PPP Phase II project.

Roles and Responsibilities

Purpose

  • Develop seed system strategy to improve seed production and business model for each private partner
  • Provide technical support to the platform members, breeders and scientists to develop their own breeding strategies,
  • Develop superior varieties, new protocols and field research management techniques
  • Refining existing methods of breeding and make change in business policy towards sustainable business development
  • Develop Private Partners’ seed production, processing and marketing system towards sustainable profit

 Engagement

  • Facilitate the conduct of technical presentations, briefings, roundtable discussions, and meetings in improving existing seed system with all private partners
  • Participate in third-party conferences and workshops related to discussions on seed business and policy development

Delivery 

  • Develop business policy/ strategy for partners
  • Help improving marketing system for the partners product
  • Develop private sector channels and seed commercialization
  • Help private sector partners in investing to increases the number of rice breeding programs to develop superior product using modern breeding techniques
  • Help increasing Sustainability in production and profitability of the private partners
  • Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Agricultural Science /Genetics and Plant Breeding/ Seed Policy and Business Development with at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • A PhD degree in a related subject would give preference

Skills Required

  • Extensive experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Willingness and ability to work in high-pressure and challenging situations
  • Experience in the fields of agriculture extension, seed policy and business
  • Has strong decision-making skills
  • Experience on implementing public/ private  sector seed system development programs and building multi-stakeholder agreements
  • Experience of working in any international research organization
  • Creative and quick learning ability with analytical independence

Location: Bangladesh

Salary Ranges: Basic BDT (70667  - 130833)/  per month

Other Benefits: Housing Allowance: 30% of base pay per month, Transport Allowance: 14,400 BDT, Festival Bonus: 2 times each year, Contributory Provident Fund (CPF), Returning Mother Allowance: BDT-1,000 per month for 9 months to female employees post-delivery of a baby to support return to the workplace, Medical insurance coverage: maximum US$16,000/year and other admissible benefits
