Short-Term Technical Assistant
Specific Tasks
Under the supervision of the Feed the Future Bangladesh Trade Activity Project Objective 1 Lead, the Short-Term Technical Assistant (STTA) will take the lead on planning and implementing activities to strengthen export activities with regards to fresh food, vegetables, frozen and processed food in Bangladesh within those contexts, he or she shall:
- Collate and compile different easy export publication series (brochure, leaflets, infographics, animation, and video, etc.) of fresh fruits and vegetables (FFV), and processed food;
- Draft and validate the contents of each easy export publication series (both in English & Bangla) (brochure, leaflets, infographics, etc.) by consulting with the food safety team, relevant public and private stakeholders (exporters, trade associations, academia people, etc.);
- Write different promotional materials (brochure, leaflets, and guidelines) on export procedures of fresh fruits and vegetables from Bangladesh by consulting with different trade associations, exporters, regulatory bodies, and food safety teams;
- Disseminate the export series publication through regular dialogue with relevant stakeholders and partners by planning, implementing the entire activities;
- Conduct research to write about the contents of Food Chain Traceability and validate the contents with relevant stakeholders;
- Conduct a need assessment with fresh fruits and vegetable export association and IT vendor to develop and create the website and central database system.
Deliverables
The STTA shall be responsible for working with the Objective 1 Lead and other consultants, in support of inputs relating to Objective 1, for the following deliverables:
- Write and compile different easy export series contents;
- Validate of different easy export publication series contents (EU market requirement of FFV, country-specific processed food export requirements, food chain traceability, and export procedure of fresh fruits and vegetables from Bangladesh);
- Publications of Promotional Materials (brochure, leaflets, infographics, and guidelines)
Reporting Requirements
The STTA will report to the DCOP/Component 1 Lead through regular briefings and day-to-day dialogue.
Level of Effort and Period of Performance
The period of performance shall be approximately 60 days, onsite.
Required Skills and Experience –
Education:
Relevant background. (Ex: advanced degree in applied food science, agriculture, agro economy, food safety management, etc.)
Experience:
- At least 10 years of professional experience in food safety, food systems, or market value chain systems.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to work with aggregators, SME growers, and processors
- Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in training and mentoring staff and others.
- Demonstrated experience of working with exporters, traders, farmers, associations, and competent authorities.
Other:
- Strong communication skills, client-orientated, ability to work in a team
- Ability to use information and communication technology (ICT) as a tool and resource
- Proficiency in English
