Officer- Enterprise Development, Uddokta-LDS Nutrition Project

We are a world leader in making markets work for the poor as well as the longest-established market development specialist NGO in Bangladesh. iDE believes that markets can be a powerful force for improving smallholder prosperity by creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households. iDE Bangladesh currently has eight projects in Agricultural Markets, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Climate and Environment focusing on rural entrepreneurship and private sector engagement.
iDE Bangladesh is looking for qualified Enterprise Development Officers for its LDS nutrition part of the Uddokta Project. Enterprise Development Officer (EDO) will be responsible for the overall implementation of project activities in their assigned Districts and Upazilas. They will lead the planning and field implementation to bring systemic changes and market development for the project and also reach project targets. The EDO will play a major role in coordinating and implementing project activities with the community, manufacturer, light engineering, SME, dealers, service providers, sector representatives, and other relevant stakeholders. The EDO will assist the private sector and SMEs for capacity building, commercialization, strengthening of supply chain and after-sales services, accessing finance, business growth, market linkages and services for the community. They will also collect different need base field information jointly with the Evidence and Analytics (E&A) specialist.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Officer-Enterprise Development will include but are not limited to the descriptions below-
General Responsibilities |
- Ensure the implementation for business growth of NSA (nutrition sales agent) through market development and service-oriented interventions in the assigned areas.
- Conduct market research to assess constraints and opportunities, and identify primary actors (local entrepreneurs) of the value chain, their roles and responsibilities as well as relationships in relation to sustainable market-based solutions.
- Establish effective management operating systems for data gathering, monitoring, analysis, classification and evaluation of NSA and MSMEs business growth.
- Promote networking between professional bodies, research, public-private sectors and other interested bodies.
- Conduct awareness-raising events involving public and private sectors, LSPs, civil society leaders and others for creating demand for innovative technology.
- Assists NSA to incorporate new design to improve their product quality and business development.
- Facilitate national firms and local entrepreneurs to improve their production capacity and business growth through linkage and increase sales.
- Identify various opportunities and constraints based on local field context and provide necessary feedback to improve demand centered products through test marketing.
- Determine the cost-benefit analysis of existing and potential technology/equipment and business in the rural/urban market.
- Develop the capacity of NSA and MSMEs in areas identified in the business plan, and business management through regional resources of public and private sectors and other actors.
- Arrange linkage meetings, business training for NSA and SMEs, local service provider, market actor, producer group and relevant private and public sectors.

Planning, and Strategy Development |
- Conduct regular field travel and spend significant periods with producers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in the field.
- Ensure the application of iDE’s market system approach and closely work with market actors specific to selected value chains and business groups/actors.
- Assist the Field Team Leader in implementation to achieve required project outcomes.
- Follow up and monitor the field implementation with NSA and MSMEs for ensuring their capacities to explore new market opportunities for the farmers/producers/ value chain actors and update the senior team members.

Reporting and Submissions |
- Prepare field progress reports and other reports regularly, document the key learning and findings.

Monitoring
and Evaluation |
- Collect different need base field information jointly with the Evidence and Analytics (E&A) specialist and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Expert to monitor the achievement of project outputs and results (outcomes) as per project MRM Plans.

Other Responsibilities |
- Represent iDE at external events and meetings as agreed with the supervisor.
- Participate in relevant meetings and workshops.
- Undertake additional tasks subject to workload and skill sets such as project communication/visibility, cross-project training and evaluations.

Skills and Experience:
A successful Officer-Enterprise Development will have the following skills and experience and will be comfortable with the following conditions.
Education |
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject, Agriculture/ Business Administration/ Management or broad experience in related field will get preference
|
Work Experience |
- At least 3 years of work experience in enterprise development, market systems, farm economy and a good understanding of the market development approach.

Personal Skills |
- Practical knowledge of working with NSA with green technologies.
- Good planning and organizing abilities.
- Excellent skills in community mobilization, working experience with public and private sector partners, and understands team approach.
- Experience in profit analysis and business planning with NSA.
- Ability to interact and collaborate with a broad range of public and private sector as well as various partners.
- Excellent training facilitation, coordination, and documentation skills.
- Strong communication, linkage and networking skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Understand the roles of different actors in market development and private sector engagement.

Physical and Language Skills |
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to present coherent and convincing messages to different audiences.
- Must have a valid driver license and be willing to work under pressure in remote areas.
- Proficient user of computer software (i.e. MS Office, internet, Google apps etc.)
- Highly motivated individual.
- Willing to continuously learn new skills and prepared to work hard and smart.
- Prepared to undertake frequent field visits and extensive travel.
- Ability to work extended hours as required
- Flexibility and ability to stay effective and motivated in a fast-changing environment
