ECO-RING | SPECIFICATION FOR TESTING ECO-RING PROTOTYPES

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Poribesh Shomoto Ring (Eco-Ring) - greening the WASH sector and environment - aims to repurpose or “upcycle" plastic waste during the production of latrine rings in order to reduce plastic pollution in nearby water bodies such as rivers, canals, and drains. It attempts to address the plastic waste issues and strengthen the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector in Bangladesh. The concept of Eco-Ring can trigger innovation among the rural community and encourage upcycling plastic waste in many other incredible ways.

PRIORITY AREAS OF INTEREST

The pilot project is interested to test the durability of 6 Eco-Ring prototypes in comparison to concrete rings with a local firm/institute/individual preferably located in Sylhet Sadar, Upazila of the Sylhet district. Tentative criteria of the test:

# Durability Test Detail
1 Weight and Density
  • No specification.
2 Compressive Strength
  • Impact, soil pressure, weight, etc.
3 Leakage and Porousness
  • Water, moisture, etc.
4 Degradability
  • Speed of degradation or longevity
5 Cost of 6 tests
  • BDT 15,000 - 60,000

The project will test to identify the most durable prototype to pilot the Eco-Ring in 6 households in the Sylhet district. The project will also assess the potential of the composition of the prototype for other products other than latrine rings in the upcycling market.
