WHO WE ARE

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

THE PURPOSE

The Generalist Field Officer oversees the CXB area team and its operations in line with Delegation’s strategic direction, acting as the main representative and key liaison with local authorities, humanitarian actors, and civil society. He / She also support security coordination, facilitate and propose field missions and, serve as the primary on-ground contact for Protection and Prevention activities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes actively to widening the network of the ICRC in CXB/CHT-covered geographical areas and supports the delegation to have dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conducts, prepares, participates in field visits, assessments and other ground operations and comprehensive reports.
  • Supports and contributes to the overall analyses of the humanitarian, political and security environment to identify humanitarian needs related to ICRC activities concerns and trends in CXB/CHT-covered geographical areas.
  • Develops and maintains dialogue with all relevant interlocutors at local level (different government authorities, UN, I/NGO) and community level organizations such as CBOs/EBOs, religious circles etc.) in accordance with existing strategies and objectives.
  • Participates in relevant sectorial coordination meetings (Border and security, NGO security platform).
  • Contributes actively and substantively to updating the Stakeholders’ Mapping in her / his area of responsibility.
  • In coordination with all relevant departments and management, contributes actively to defining key protection and prevention messages and public communication messaging as required.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum 10 years of overall experience and at least 5 years’ experience in humanitarian organization.
  • Minimum graduation in any discipline.
  • Excellent command of English; Chittagonian / Rohingya language will be considered as an asset.
  • Ability to create and manage a wide range of interlocutors,
  • Critical analysis and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing and computer skills.
