The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of conflict. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it employs around 20,000 people in 100 countries; it is financed mainly by voluntary donations from Governments, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. First-Aid (FA) Field Officer contributes to implementing, running and monitoring the first-aid programme(s) in cooperation with the health team, Under the supervision of FA Responsible, s/he will oversee FA programmes.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts assessment to understand evolution & assist to strengthen activities related to first aid & emergency preparedness & emergency response capacities in collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Ensures most effective implementation of First Aid activities by maintaining communication & co-ordination with local partners and stakeholders.
- Co-ordinates with intra organizational stakeholders during FA training, assess & evaluate training quality.
- Supports research and implementation of first aid references, documents & best practices in context of local culture, level of resilience etc.
- Ensures availability & distribution of equipment and supplies (i.e. first aid/emergency preparedness) as & when required.
- Assists in data collection, ensures all collected information are monitored, evaluated & reported on regular basis.
- Liaises with both external & internal stakeholder to update/revise standard operating procedures, deployment reporting, ensures more efficient implementation & activity evaluation of ICRC activities.
- Participates in different meetings as technical reference, takes minutes, notes, and interprets to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitors & identifies opportunities in social & general media regarding First Aid work.
- Prepare reports and other documentation as & when required.
Educational requirements:
Degree in medicine or nursing (with a specialty in emergency medicine) or paramedic science/practice.
- Qualification as a first-aid trainer.
Additional studies in relevant field (e.g. advanced first aid, emergency medicine, public health).
Fluent command of English and computer literacy. Knowledge of Rohingya language will get added advantage.
License to practice in Bangladesh.
Professional requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in first-aid training/education and/or first-aid programme support.
- Experience in prehospital emergency care will be given preference.
- Technical experience in training.
- Voluntary experience with the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement will be considered as an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of the assigned geographic area.
