The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of conflict. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it employs around 20,000 people in 100 countries; it is financed mainly by voluntary donations from Governments, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The ICRC Dhaka delegation is now looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated person for the following position:

Position : Staff Health Officer
Department : Human Resources
Location : Dhaka
Starting date : As soon as possible
Contract Type : Open Ended Contract

The Staff Health Officer is the focal person for all matters relating to the health of ICRC staff in the Delegation. In line with ICRC staff health policies and in collaboration with the Regional staff health coordinator and medical experts in the HQ, S/he promotes and maintains the physical and mental health of the ICRC staff in Bangladesh.

Responsibilities:

Health promotion and prevention

  • Carry out context-specific health briefing for all new ICRC staff and debriefing for departing staff
  • Assesses and supervises living conditions in the delegation and all sub-sites, promotes general hygiene standards (e.g. housing, use of mosquito nets, water filters, hygiene standards of cooks and cleaners, nutritional advice).
  • Organize First-aid trainings for staff on regular basis
  • Collects accurate and reliable data on illnesses, accidents and absenteeism, with a view to providing statistics on illnesses and the medical risks taken by all ICRC staff.

Emergency preparedness and case management

  • Develop and update the Medical contingency plan
  • Advice and support to ICRC staff with health problems.

Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) for staff

  • Work in partnership with the regional staff psychosocial support coordinator (SMSPS) in the implementation of the staff health strategy
  • Implement (prevention and support) of the institutional MHPSS strategy

Support in crisis management

  • Support to ICRC crisis management mechanism
  • Support individuals in the aftermath of critical incidents following existing SOPs

Quality control and Monitoring

  • Perform regular field visits, in sub-sites in the area of responsibility, to guarantee the quality and harmonization of Staff health services
  • Monitor the implementation of the staff health strategy

Medical insurance

Perform administrative and accounting tasks related to staff health/insurance

Educational requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (Masters Degree in Medicine), MBBS.
  • Fluent command of English.
  • Proficiency with MS-Office and internet tools.

Professional requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
  • Experience in mental health & stress management is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge in public health systems of Bangladesh is added advantage
  • Experience with occupational health, medical evacuation, tropical health is desirable.
