The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of conflict. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it employs around 12,000 people in 80 countries; it is financed mainly by voluntary donations from Governments, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The ICRC Dhaka delegation is now looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated person for the following position:

Position : Accountant
Department : Finance & Administration
Location : Dhaka
Starting date : As soon as possible
Contract Type : Open Ended Contract

Under the guidance and supervision of Finance & Administration Manager, Accountant is in charge of preparing necessary cash/bank payments according to the prescribed procedures, reconciling and analysing the accounting records and financial reports of the delegation along with ensuring that adequate internal controls are present in all of financial transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and posts accounting entries in the accounting software (IRIS) on a timely and regular basis.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of accounting transactions in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Helps ensure that operations run smoothly through efficient cash-flow management, covering the fund needs of the delegation/structure.
  • Keeps files up to date at all times and guarantees proper filing of relevant supporting documents for future reference, including audits.
  • Performs regular integrity checks of accounting entries and account balances.
  • Participates in monthly closing activities and is responsible for part of them.
  • Knows, applies and complies with all administrative and financial procedures and deadlines linked to his/her work.
  • Identifies anomalies or other issues and proposes solutions to his/her supervisor.

Educational requirements:

  • Graduation in Business Administration specially in Accounting / Finance / Banking / Management / HRM /Marketing, Masters degree will be considered asset.
  • Fluent command of English and moderate computer literacy.

Professional requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience in relevant field.
  • Experienced in using accounting software and spreadsheet.
