The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), established in 1863, works worldwide to provide humanitarian help for people affected by conflict and armed violence and to promote the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, it employs around 18,000 people in 80 countries; it is financed mainly by voluntary donations from governments, national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. The ICRC in Cox’s Bazar Office is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and motivated person for the following position:

Position : Water and Habitat Technician
Department : Water and Habitat

Contract Type : Full time Open Ended Contract

Reporting to the WatHab Engineer/Delegate, the incumbent will be working in a team of 6 engineers/technicians and support field projects. Major Responsibilities include but do not limit to;

Responsibilities:

  • Develops project documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts, etc.) for small or non-complex engineering projects using approved formats; monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary
  • Participates in needs assessment of environmental health (WASH and construction) for ICRC humanitarian activities in Cox's Bazar
  • Participates in project designing and technical elements (surveying, bill of quantities, time table, constraints)
  • Organizes and supervises the implementation and monitoring of technical projects according to ICRC administrative procedure to ensure quality of the projects
  • Organizes the handover of projects and train end-users on maintenance and use of installations
  • Maintains a network of interlocutors, contractors, beneficiaries and their representatives at community level
  • Prepares frequent progress reports and field visit reports
  • Translates documents for internal use and interprets upon request

Educational Requirements

  • Graduation from a reputed College/University with degree in a relevant field such as Civil or Environmental Engineering or Water and Sanitation
  • Good command of English (written and spoken)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Professional requirements:

  • Work experience: minimum 02 years of proven professional experience in similar jobs in development sectors
  • Knowledge required: technical knowledge of water supply, sanitation, construction, emergency preparedness and response
